Secret entrance to my game room

I wanted to do this for the entrance into the hall that leads to my theater from the game room. After seeing the surprised responses from visitors when they see what is behind the door, it really isn't necessary. If i ever end up building a custom home, i will probably have hidden passages, but i have no regrets with my current setup...

You're not done yet? :D Did you hit up the library yet? They go through books. Especially ratty, worn ones, which is exactly what you'd be looking for. ;)

Awesome Amazing

Im so jelous. I have the perfect opening to do the same thing. Cant wait to see the final pics. Going to be amazing good luck with it.

That is _way_ cool... You might want to put a small wheel or roller on the bottom of the doors to help take the weight.

most excellent!
cheers
/Tim

This is great! Rich and I have been discussing installing secret doors for the barcade one it's open. We have been thinking about using bookcases on wheels that would slide open to reveal the back room or an antique phone booth with a faux back that you could walk through.

I can't wait to see the finished product!!

Here there is a pla e called Half Price Books. At most their price is half the cost of new, but they deal in such volume of books they sell the worthless books by the foot to interior decorators, etc. So things like law volumes, encyclopedias, and all kinds of otherwise worthless hard bound books can be had for cheap.

Do a search for Weld-On hinges. They hold a ridiculous amount of weight. I got mine with roller bearings and a grease fitting. You'll likely have to beef up the frame, but they should hold a bookcase easily if you size them right. Only drawback is you'll have to weld them onto a flat plate as they're meant for direct weld to a metal door/frame. I use a set like this on a custom door that's made from 2x4s sheathed with 3/4" plywood. Just don't make the mistake I did...I had the drawing I gave to the welder upside down when I sketched it. :)

For those people with basements, you could do the Maxwell Smart Phone booth. You walk in, dial a phone number and it drops you into the basement :D

You sir are my hero.

As a kid I always said if I had any money I wanted my own arcade. While secretly wanting secret passages in my house as well.

BRAVO!

I want to live in an abandoned missile silo. However, I don't think my wife would much care for that.

thats really cool, i cant wait to see it done. I want to do the grandfather clock thing like in the batman cartoons
