So I'm currently in talks about picking up this DK machine and would love the opinion of some KLOV experts:

Apparently there's something wrong with PCB where Jumpman disappears. I have a spare board anyway, and was thinking about making it a DK II machine. The buttons and joystick aren't in good shape, and the monitor's condition is unknown, looks okay in pictures but that never tells the whole story.

It's definitely not worth the $1,000 he's asking.

What's the market price for this machine?

$300-$400? Somewhere in that range?

759 is pretty steep, the CPO looks like its been chewed on and the sides are nothing to write home about. If the game has graphics issues, that's a whole 'nother can of worms, I wouldn't pay much more than 300-400 myself, depending on how bad you want a DK cabinet.

Exidy prices them somewhere in the $400-$800 range, 800 being near perfect which this simply isn't.

My opinion is look elsewhere. The dumb@ss thinks his DK would be work over 2k if it was 100%. Besides, it's not like DK's are hard to find.

He went to $650, and then $525. He won't have any biters at the higher prices and I'll have some leverage, but I don't know how low he'll really go.

I let him know that $2K is ridiculous.

His punishment for the original asking price is that you will never give him any money. That's the only way he'll learn.

(That's how I see it, anyway. Plenty of DKs around.) ;)

Well I picked it up for $400. Thanks for the heads up.: D
All it needed was a fuse.

Just kidding.

It looks like it needs a minor restore, but it's all there.

My example:
I sold my particle board DK sans side art and under-bezel instruction sticker for $700. Everything else was super clean, original, and 100% fully functioning with new coin mechs, True Falt t-molding, fully restored control panel, decent (but by no means perfect) bezel and marquee. I honestly probably could have gotten more for it, but I gave the buyer a deal since he bought all of my games at one time.

I'll take it!

Wait...reading was never my strong suit.

I'm nearly positive this machine was on location at Jerseys on Hamilton. I was there about 2 months ago and the machine had the exact issue described. If so, it is in nice shape, except for the glitch (which makes the game unplayable on the girder levels since you can't see the barrels coming down the ladders) and the buttons aren't right, but otherwise it's pretty decent. I'll be a bit disappointed if this is that machine, I always liked going there and seeing it.

yeah donkey kong is never really a $150-$200 game.

I took an empty cab that was beautiful.
rebuilt monitor $150+
working dk board $130
d2k kit $89 (or so)
control panel $75
d2k art kit $300-though I originally bought the bezel cpo and marquee for about $100.
dokert wiring harness $90
power supply $35

I am sure there is more, but clearly it adds up quick to put one of these together.

Yeah, building mine opened my eyes to the actual cost of a good game. I still lowball the shit out of projects, but I have a newfound appreciation for the price tag of quality games. I would still be willing to build another DK any day of the week because then the machine will be exactly the way I want it and there are no surprises, but the price tag will be bigger and firmer on the next one no doubt.

As I progress in collecting games, the first question asked use to be "Does it work properly?" but now I ask about the condition of the cab. Repairs are not that hard but the cost of new artwork can turn an arcade game into a money pit. Meaning the dollars invested in a game will never have a chance of being recouped.

$400 would be a decent price .

You can get the board repaired by Dick Millikan for $50 .

So you'd have a $450 DK .

I donno. I'd pay $250 in that condition. $300 to $325 if it didn't have the board issue. It may be worth $300 if that side art is in such good condition that you don't have to replace it.

But then I saw this:
"For sale Vintage coin operated 1986 Donkey Kong Video Game"
The 1986 version is definately worth 2k. (jk)
