Game won't coin up, but the game comes up. Need to know where to start. I heard coining up could be an issue on Sea Wolf's. Can you help?

looking at the wiring diagram, looks like the coin switches and start switch are tied into the tilt(slam) switch.

searching on here doesn't really yield any results.

have you tried maunally shorting the coin wires together? and making sure the slam switch isn't stuck/making contact? voltages all good? checking voltages on this should be basically the same as a space invaders, as they're both 8080 games. elektron forge has tips on how to check them on their site.

edit - you could try tracing the wires back through the harness and seeing if there are any breaks or whatnot.

OK, now the game coins up, but I can't fire a torpedo. wires to the switch are fine, button hits the leafs. The game coins up, starts but I can't fire. The PT Cruiser sound is also slightly distorted. I've checked with Andre at Arcade Solution, he is too busy. Alex Yeckley from Electron Forge has been contacted but doesn't respond. Does anyone else repair these boards? Please LMK. Thanks.

Whoa, got a reply from Eldorado. They have no T/W Sea Wolf sets in stock, but they will repair mine for $220 shipped. Sounds a bit high, no? Keep in mind this set is almost working, just gotta figure out why it won't fire during a game. God I hope Alex gets back to me on this one.

If ever dig mine out of the back of the garage....

Yeah... $220 is ridiculous, as is *everything* at eldorado.

Yeah never used them before, but I've heard stories. If you wanna take a crack at them, LMK. I really want to be playing this game not just looking at it. Thanks Mark.

I don't know if this would be helpful enough for a problem like that if you don't have your own rom burner, but I wrote a test rom specifically for Sea Wolf that might save you a bit of hassle so you don't have to start a game just to test the button. It would also be helpful if any of your explosion lights or periscope lights aren't working.

Keep trying Alex @ Elektronforge - he's the man with these old Midway b/w games. He will respond and is a good guy to do business with.

I'm only posting this because I've used Alex for years and he's never failed me yet.

Regards,
Tom

Well thanks to orion, I got to play the game for about 45 minutes today. I jumpered pins 3-6 and 2-7 on the small chip at A1 and got the game to coin up and the fire button worked fine. WooHoo!! Everything was going awesome, other than I had no explosion lights when I hit a ship, when all of the sudden the screen went to garbage, I was hit with a wall of sound and boom. No more image. Now the monitor still works and the sounds still work, but they are all on at once in a noise wall. The individual and main volume pots all work, so the sound board seems fine. Either the board or the power supply took a shit. I reseated all the chips when I did the jumpering, so that's not the issue. Help.

are you getting a rug pattern at all when you say garbage? could be a reset line/power supply issue. or ram/rom issue.

Most likely power supply crapped out - reset line died, OR the actual CPU (8080) died. The sounds were stuck on because the processor stopped processing and nothing told it to shut up.

Also check the slam switch on the coin door! Make sure its not being activated/shorted!

Slam switch is gone, just a dead-ended black wire hanging there, not shorting to anything. Alex Yeckley got back to me this morning and it sounds like he will take, test and rebuild/ repair my boards. It sure was a fun 45 minutes Jeff, so thanks for the help so far. This game is the greatest game in the world.

Hey Phet...

Just an FYI: I picked up a Kurz Kasch unit tonight and with it I got the Sea Wolf I & II adapters.

The plan is to acquire more test cards for some of the more popluar black & white games and start offering repairs on those.

I would be forever in your debt. Alex Yeckley is a hard man to keep in contact with. I had him with my first email, but he won't respond anymore. It's been a week and a half since I heard from him. When will you be up and running? I can pull my boards tonight and get them in the mail as soon as you are ready.

Right now between the workload and travel for the day job and trying to get the garage remodeled as a new workshop it'll be close to mid-November. :(

I'll see if I can pull that in a bit. I have a Breakout board and a LeMans board here I can play with to learn this testbed.

I can tackle it if you're still waiting.

Well, lo and behold, Alex got back to me this morning. He doesn't paint a very cheery picture but at least he will look at them for me. Thanks for the offers, and if he can't fix them, I will need working replacements if any of you repair guys have any fixed up.

alex fixed mine up just fine, i think i sent him almost every board in the machine so he could check out the entire lot, 2 years later they are still going strong or has it been 3 years?

should be no problem.

Thanks man, you're the second person to tell me that. I can't wait to have this game 100%. Is there a better arcade game in the world? I can't think of one.
