Scud Race Upright - No Picture - High Pitch Whistle

Hey JLS, I took a look through the manual, I found it online, don't own this game, and didn't see anything either. I also searched for related threads, and the only one I found which seemed to have a link to the error code list was a dead link. That said, do you happen to know what make of monitor it is? I have a monitor I need to fix which has a dead flyback and makes a similar tone when powered up. You may be best off moving this to the monitor section.

Couldnt find a label without removing it but 99.9% sure its a 29″ Nanao based on googling the game. Its a hitatchi A68ksa30x monitor though which sounds like a 30 inch and not 29...lol. So maybe its got the original monitor and the blog restore i read had a swap done or vica-versa.

Not sure who built it. Not a USA game and I dont recall Japan building UR. Sounds more like something UK would have put together. Anything goes with monitor then. If its Nanao it will be written on pcbs so. Tube could say Hitachi or Toshiba. To see if its just a bad monitor, grab a dell desktop LCD. Most of them are multiscan that I have seen so you can just plug it in DB15 video output on cage to see if you get something.

Scud Race is the UK version of Sega Super GT as far as i know. It says UK on the cover of the manual i think too.

I was thinking maybe i should just unplug all monitor cables to see if the noise goes away? Is that a bad idea?

I disconnected the bigger plug that had all the wires including power on the monitor and the noise did go away. The game appears to play blind also. Could this just be a new flyback needed or a chassis board problem?

Maybe i do need to move this to the monitor section :s

Also has error 8 but no info searching or in the manual. Why have a board show error codes but not publish what most of them mean?!?!

You could go with an LCD using a scan converter. That is the way most people go now. Don't worry about the error 8 yet. It really does not mean anything more than a general feedback error. There are not enough sense devices on SGT/SR to tell whats really wrong. Once game is running, you can swap drive bds to see if a its the Drive Control or Servo Drive Bd. If not that maybe the motor (swap control panel). Could just be wiring issue too. Old game.
