This was working fine; I only wanted to make it a little brighter. But, stupid me breaks rule #1 and starts turning knobs on the neckboard and on the remote board without caution, and now I have the image (attached). Dunno if it's a sync problem or not...

Knobs I might've touched on neck board:

R. DRIVE
R. CUTOFF
G. DRIVE
G. CUTOFF
B. DRIVE
B. CUTOFF

On remote board:

V. SIZE
V. POS
H. SIZE
H. POS
BLK LEVEL
CONTRAST

Any ideas? (For reference, the image on the monitor in the picture is the initialization screen of a 60-in-1 PCB, where the "SYSTEM INITIALIZATION" words appear at top.)

Looks like a sync issue.
Check the video input cable. Make sure it didn't get bumped, wiggle it, etc, etc.

Woo hoo - looks like this was it. Messed with it a bit, and now I have a stable picture!

(Of course, it's out of whack color and size-wise `cause of the knobs I messed with. So, I'll declare complete victory once it looks right again.)

Thanks! :D

If you had to wiggle it too much to get it "fixed" then you might want to check the solder joints under those header pins. (make sure none are cold/cracking)

Boy, you touched alot of stuff back there! ;)

The brightness control is one of the thumb nobs on the flyback and the other one is for focus.

It takes a little time to get a monitor dialed in by yourself, best bet is to use a mirror or have a helper so you can see how the adjustments effect the image.

Thanks for the help so far, guys.

New symptoms.

*Turn the machine on: sync is fine. Stays fine for as long as it's on.
*Turn the machine off, and then back on within 15 minutes: loses sync. After 15 min: fine.

So, a thermal issue? But, if it was, wouldn't the sync mess up while it was on?

That thing traveled a long way across some bumpy roads.

I think you are almost there, it is most likely another small hsync adjustment to get her stable.

Unplug and check all the molex pins and sockets to see if any have moved inside the connectors then replug all your molex connectors to the monitor as well as the jamma harness going to the board.

Look smack dab in the middle of the chassis for a VR501...tweak it a hair.

Horizontal Position "might" sometimes cause a slight sync issue...VR106 on the remote board.

And check your solder joints. :)
(peace of mind if nothing else)

I thought 7203s don't have remote boards?
