Screw head type question

I looked for a bit and couldn't find a single set that had the tri groove.

@ArcadeTechGW Do you know where yours came from?

$10 plus shipping.

The place my wife got this set from is unknown. She probably got it from a school sale (she was a secretary).
The ratchet drive and "flexible" drive broke into pieces. I pitched them, but kept the bits. When I looked at them, it was a full security bit set in a silicone block. Damn - she did good with THAT Christmas present!

^^^ this. Then go back with something that's more common, but the same thread size if it's a machine screw. There's no need for security screws if it's just going into your private collection/game room.
I agree. This is getting stupid expensive - which is why games used this type of stuff. To prevent stealing.

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the input and suggestions. I looked up the tri-groove sockets as well and found them unreasonably priced. What ultimately worked for me was a simple gator grip socket/wrench. If you fiddle around with it some of the gator prongs will slot into the screw recesses and allow you to turn it. This is a much more affordable alternative if others find themselves in the same scenario. Cheers!

Great solution!

I guess so, nice! I was actually hoping to find a set with the bits in it, a bit bummed!

I've never tried it with tri-groove screws but you might try the Bic Pen method of making your own bits.
Years ago it was all the rage for opening NES cartridges and consoles before the Nintendo security bits became commonly available.

I always say get the right tool, but properly bent pin nails and visegrips have served me in the past with these.
As long as the fasteners aren't corrosion welded to something anyway.

I sometimes get impatient and make shit up while I am waiting for the proper tool to arrive.
