I just recapped my Kortek KT-2001SF, looking good! What's the best way to adjust the "screen" (on the HV) and brightness? I know that brightness = "black level", so does screen = "white level"?

Thanks,
John

I think the best description for both is:

Screen = coarse black level adjustment
Brightness = fine black level adjustment

Brightness accomplishes the same thing as Screen, except it's more of a fine-tune adjustment that only gives you a little bit of leeway each way. Screen is the master brightness, Brightness only allots adjustment for a fraction of wherever the Screen is set at.

hope that explains it.

best way to do this is to set your Brightness pot at its center position. then adjust your Screen to within where your black backgrounds don't actually show up in the raster. you want black to be... black. use Brightness to adjust this spot-on.

Just to add to this -

I typically do all my initial adjustments with NO video signal. (unplug it)

Set both Brightness and Contrast about halfway, then adjust Screen on the flyback up and then back down until the screen is just black.
Plug your video signal back in and make fine adjustments with Brightness and Contrast.

This usually does good to get in the ballpark, more fine tuning may be necessary as each game may vary a bit.
