Very strange behavior with my(Jomac calls it an Orion PWB-2022 but Ken in an earlier discussion said SI\Kortek)that showed this same symptom with a Mr. Do board as it's now doing with my Capcom 1942.

OK...everything looks fine when first powered up. Then within 10 seconds with the B+ at minimum-the screen goes green with retrace lines and I can see the game running in the background but its mainly white. If I turn the B+ up at all I get the green thing even after a cool down restart.

I notice the big sand resistor(no markings)right next to the filter cap gets really hot compared to my G07's or WG's. I can't seem to find any schematics for this chassis so I'm winging it here.

Could this be a failing voltage regulator or the sand resistor breaking down? Or??

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks Ben

Ben , this is more than likely a cracked solder joint or failing color drive transistor . the sand resistors will get hotter than most anything on the board. retouch all your connection ( pin ) points. just had this happen with a hantrax , resolder did the trick for me.

Thanks Space cowboy

I'll reflow the pin points and swap the green trans at the same time(I assume that its the green one if it were a transistor problem-right?)with one of the other two.

I'll post the results later today.
Ben

dont start swapping trans out yet , try the solder joints first. failing that , are you local? i have a rejuv tester , we could test the tube out to make sure thats not shorting on you

Well, re-flowed everything that looked suspect and still the same prob. I didn't swap out the tran as this neck board has 6 of em and I can't figure out whats what-no map so I left them alone.

Thanks for the nice offer Space cowboy-but I'm west of Edm

Jeez...I was hoping you guys weren't going to say CRT short. Would giving it the old rap with the screwdriver handle confirm anything? Shouldn't screw it any more than it is and might put it out of it's misery. Yes-no?

Ben

find yourself an old 19" tv with the same neck pinout and do a tube swap, I can help walk you thru it if need be. Not much to it, how I get fresh looking 19's

Sounds like a tube short to me.

Good call-you nailed it! I gave the neck some shots with the screwdriver handle while in the green mode and I could see some horizontal black lines like the picture was trying to come in but wouldn't quite do it.

I re-powered and got a fast cycling- good pic-green-good-green about 5 times in 2-3 seconds and then it held so looks like I'm looking for a TV tube. I know this is probably just a temporary fix. I've collected a few tubes for my G07's and HG but this one is that 12 pin a-hole thing that I've only encountered once at the dump. Stupid me didn't take it.

Oh well...might be a while before this monitor gets redone-and it had a perfect no burn picture. Damn.

Space cowboy-I'm gonna take you up on the hand holding offer for the tube swap but it will be on my 4600 which I had in this game and it did pretty much the same thing. But would never give me a picture again after it shorted.

I'm beginning to think that putting a worn upright monitor in a cocktail may be shortening their life drastically. especially if there's some loose shit floating around in there.

Thank you a whole bunch guys- you were more than helpfull and I'm sure I'll be pestering you all later with the WG4600 tube swap.
