[ Scratch Build ] 90's Midway Control Panel Box, MK3/UMK3

hehe thanks, got my oz rally out of paint booth again 2x in 2 years due to idiots not paying attention and one destroying my evo 7 front end on
my oz rally. ill be ready for mod2017 ( 2hr drive) anyway I digress at my old age...

picked up my plexi top from local eplastic shop and its spot on match to the wood top and fits right in with the cpo perfectly... some of the routed holes may
differ slightly( depends on operator ) but I had no issue installing buttons etc....

no regrets
That cat is cool as hell.

That cat is cool as hell.

I wanted to have my other1 but at 14lbs, she doesn't sit still lol and is a maincoon mix lol

atleast I got hardware installed, altho not right colors, its what I had available to use and it doesn't look to bad as it sits atm, I might just leave it as is :p (until I order new set of buttons with right colors)

with 1 week togo until mod2017 @ MMNA trying not to do any woodwork in garage and get my oz rallys new lightning yellow paintjob screwed up..I did some
measuring and even as think as the cpo is since I used thin pw with tmolding it will sit just fine.... next big thing to do is make a base to put this box onto and
make it freestanding to where I can move it easily...

just got to decide on type of base I wanna do....

My 1st attempt at making anything from scratch, my carpentry aint that good, so hoping this goes well. Since it is hard trying to find a original one that
someone willing to let go beit sitting on a shelf or parting out due to cabinet being damaged or converted, I am making one from scratch..
The whole process took months to get all the data/direction from several people on here (boostin4hp ,zenomorp, jp335i & twistedsymphony ),
just like to sat thanks to all of you...

With general shapes collected from classicarcadecabinets.com cad files for mk3 & importing them to adobe ai, made exact dimensions of each part
with measurements collected. the result is scale to print pdf's of each piece of the box. I have all artwork already thanks to boostin4hp so
when its done, I can just lay it over the wood. margin of error is 1/16in or so...

The final product will look like or close to the original one seen below...

Ill be using 3/4in plywood beit sanded or raw. I had files printed @ office depot where I used to work for last 9 years using cheapest paper possible
and all this cost me under $20 after taxes. I then used adhesive spray on the wood then layed the template over it and cut with either my table saw
or jigsaw where needed....

the cpo will be tricky one to do. what I did is using the template from classicarcadecabinets.com, provided by twistedsymphony. I grabbed the
image right on the money maker (marked outline) then in illustrator I created exact size of the top panel, dropped the image on top and stretch it to
the size of the panel. I checked template using grid overlay in adobe ai and its straight as an arrow across the panel so I'm hoping that
it will line up with the artwork..

Whats going to happen next is bondo to cover knotches in wood (drives me nuts) and sanding to get it just right. I left 1/16 outside of cutouts so I
wont go too close with the cuts & ill sand rest of the way to edge of the part

What I do have is Wood, art sticks and buttons (my sticks have wrong color bat handles blue inst of red and only buttons I have to spare is all black ones)
what I don't have is tmolding and something to cut the groove with. ill look into it when time comes...

questions &/or suggestions, just ask....

Ive been down this road 4 times ... soon to be a 5th .
Getting another MKII cab this coming weekend but i havent seen it yet lol.

mitsu life :p

I'm 2nd owner of my 03 oz rally & had it for 10 years, bought it in 2007 when it was only 3.5 years old used car and it was in "MINT" condition - no regrets...

and VertexGuy, this was a learning experience for me and I learned a lot by making something that was/is impossible to find that's original and I'm happy the way it looks...

I hope someday I find a original mk cab, converted or otherwise and fix it up nice

**Edit**

Fixed my imges not loading #screw photobucket. I sent them to imgur

Thank you for reuploading the images! F_k Photobucket, 98% of forums threads are useless because of them :(

Did you ever finished your control panel? All black buttons and sticks look great!

complete yes, minus tmolding.. I was waiting right time for eprom writer and uveraser for the board conversion.. I got promoted end of aug to ft graveyard ( more money & more taxes meh lol )
not in rush for tmolding, got the cp covered in garage under moving blanket while I'm working. next phase is to build something unique to put this onto and move it in my room to play

Reprogrammed with AnyU64 umk3 v1.2 ( Originally was RWT )

Hey man great job on this, I've done this exact project and it's. It easy. As long as your happy with the outcome who gives a crap what some troll says about your build.

exactly.... and I like it as it sits..

I've hit a writers block ( build from scratch ) trying to attach this to something ... my neogeo monitor dead and trying to get it working again. have to find another chassis

By any chance have you seen or made a list of the parts/hardware needed for the control panel?
I ordered a new wood box and need to source whatever hardware it needs.
