My mother-in-law loooooooves Donkey Kong. Put her in front of Donkey Kong with a glass of wine and she doesn't bother me all evening.

Soooo... I'm building her a two player 60-in-1 tabletop arcade. It's nothing fancy, but I thought I'd post the build for grins.

Here's what we have so far:

I picked a rattle can paint close to Donkey Kong blue as I could eyeball.

Got a little ahead of myself and started painting before routing for T-molding. No biggie. I'll tape it up and route it after the paint cures.

I didn't go the trouble of printing vinyl CPOs. I put these together in Photoshop, printed them on big photo paper and had the laminated. I'll cover them with plexiglas.

good work. i built something very similar but never finished it because i had an issue with the screen i was using. it didn't have a good viewing angle so i scrapped it. maybe this will motivate me to get back to it. looking good. keep it up.

Is that monitor the correct 4:3 ratio?

It's an odd monitor. It's not quite a wide screen, but not 4:3 either. Don't know the ratio. It has about 1 inch bar at top and bottom, which I'll hide with a bezel.

It's what I had lying around, and it has the best viewing angle for a cocktail.

I'd make "button 3" the primary button for ergonomic reasons.
Dislike when panels are made with stick and main button too close.

I may have to reverse it entirely. Reading your post, it occurred to me that my M-in-L likes to use her right hand for the joystick. That'll be an interesting layout!

If I do that, I'll probably drop button 3. It's only used on one game; a game she'll never play.

Plus that game, Gunsmoke....the volume on that is insanely loud....better of disabling it.

More progress. Almost done. All I have to do is add the plexiglass. I'm going to paint a black bezel on the backside of the glass for now. I may have a vinyl bezel printed if I feel like hacking one together in Photoshop.

Not embedding the image because it's huge!

I love the look of this. Now I want to try my hand at one like this for my Nephew. It's a great size to be brought out when he wants to/is allowed to play, and put away easily when he is not.

Thanks! If I built another, I'd route out a little hand hold in the bottom center, so you can easily grip it to pick it up. I'd also add a volume pot. I may still do that part, as will as adding a test and service button, so you can configure the 60-in-1 without opening the case. I was going to do that, but got lazy. Still very happy with it.

FINISHED!!!!! What do you think?

Finally Got-er-done! Added the plexi and trim around the monitor. Added the service and test buttons on the underside, so you can configure the 60-in-1. No external volume control (other than software), but that's the breaks.

Mom-in-law should love it!!! On a side note, these LED joysticks suck. I may swap them out with a pair of Sanwas if she doesn't like them.

Tell me what you think.

Again, not embedding the images because they're huge.

Looks like its a 16:10 ratio monitor

Dude, you're killing it with the custom builds! I love it, KLOV needs more of these threads! Great job. :)

Thanks. I've always wanted to build one of these since I saw it on youtube. I'm pretty pleased with it. I'm giving it to my mom-in-law this weekend. I'm sure she'll like it.

Let us know how it goes, seeing/hearing the reaction of all that hard work is the best part. Does she know you made it for her or is it a surprise?
