Hi Guys

I was luck enough to get my hands on one of these a few months ago.

Starwars1stOne01.jpg

This machine needs a full makeover, new cab, sideart, control yoke and component service too, but is complete.

I was preparing to do that, as hard and as long as it would of been.

It has a 25" Amplifone Monitor and a top plexi in very good condition, but the body lets it down.

The PCB is the ESB version, and the cabinet has the stickers for ESB too, naturally.

Today I scored another one.

The seller rang me, I could not believe it. He was told to get all his gear out of his mums shed ASAP, so he offered it to me at an unbelievable price.

I went out to have a look, and there it was

I got it home as soon as I could in case he changed his mind

I will now restore this one.

It has
25" Amp screen and yoke/rings
Starwars board set
Deflection
Power supply etc
Control panel & Yoke

Wooooooooooo Hoooooooooo

:D

What a good find, congrats!
I had a guy offer me a UR Star Wars and an UR Tron for $100 each. But I was watching the kids and could not make the run in time and of course someone else got them before I could.

I kept telling myself, "family first, family first". :)

I could of waited till Saturday, but then if it rained, it would get pushed back, and who knows.

Tough luck there mate

Hi Guys

I wanted to know how much work was involved with this repair / resto

I figured at some point I would have to plug it in.

So . . I plugged the machine in and hoped.. . .

Suddenly

BANG

Flashed of smoke came out, and my heart sank :(

Then I took out the Main PCB, so I could get to the power supply, maybe it was a pinched wire or something.

I found this

I was hoping that was all that was wrong and the flash didn't destroy anything else inside.

I cut off the cord at the dodgy point and fitted a new plug

Then fitted the PCB Back in, connected up all the connectors etc

I plugged it in again, and heard the familiar clackety clack sound. WOW! that was a hopeful sign.

I went around to the screen to see what was showing. :rolleyes

This is what I saw

So, I remembered a friend of mine had this same problem on his asteroids cocktail, and the problem was the delection transistor was faulty.

I have a spare Amplifone deflection board in the shed, so I thought I'd give it a go

Again, nothing blew up, (Good sign), so I went to the screen again, and this time I got

So this resto is off to a flyer, after a shaky start.

Time elapsed since resto started: 45 minutes

Level of happiness: Priceless

A few more pics

There's a hollow part under these machines, where the cables run, they fill up with junk, so I had to tip it all out so I could vacuum.

I transferred the cockpit arches over to the keeper cab

Still needs

  • transferring of the wiring harness, as the good cab's harness is hacked, as it was a driving cabinet.
  • Still have to move the coin door too - same problem - hacked / cut
  • Fit Plexiglasses
  • assemble / make some rectangular panels, which were not provided.

The Second cab was butchered into a driving cab, In my first pics I didn't show the steering wheel and pedals. I have to repair the pedal holes too :(

Also the illuminated back glass was turfed, and a laminated panel was fitted.

I have refit the star wars plexi, as the good plexi I have has ESB decals.

I think I have the SW graphic on file somewhere ??

There was a gear stick right through the monitor bezel, and wood panel

I had to brace it and install a similar size piece :unsure

For those contemplating rebuilding one of these one day.
