And not for the right reasons......
I responded to an ad that popped up on my phone yesterday for a free arcade game one town over that the guy needed gone. From the pics I could tell it was a Sky Soldiers conversion and he said it did not work, but I did not know what it originally was. I knew it was a Midway cab and the shape was familiar.
I got there and the game was on his back deck. He said he had moved into his house a few months ago and he moved the game onto his back deck with no protection. The elements had really taken a toll, the cabinet is toast but I had hope for scavenging parts like the Midway coin door, and I had hopes that the board was still good.
This is what it looked like when I started the tear down today:
I got to work on it today and the rotted back door assembly broke right off with minimal force. I took a peek inside and nearly got sick when I saw the following:
Make that one less Tron that will ever be available in the world. Had he not left it outside for months it looked like it would have been a good restorable cab.
The only good things is that the Sky Soldiers PCB worked like a charm in one of my other cabs:
The original wiring harness is still there though they did splice a switching power supply into it and rewired the control panel. I don't know if the monitor works or not. Hopefully the water did not damage it as I see no burn in. The power brick looks to have water damage unfortunately, but the coin bucket and door are still there which I will salvage.
