Gorgar Score display problems

Hi, my Gorgar has an issue with the credit and player 1 &2 score displays all of the sudden.P3 and P4 are fine. It has done this one time before and I turned it of reseated the the connecters on P1 and P2. Also i wiggled around the 6810 chip that is giving me fits and has a replacement on the way, turned it on and it worked fine up until today and nothing is fixing it. The other twist is the first time it did this a week ago I had just gotten done installing LEDs on parts of the PF and head. I just had the 40 pin replaced a month or so ago so that shouldnt be the issue. Sooooo does anyone know a real reason why this is occurring? Thanks for any help

HEader pins can become oxidized over time and even loose. So if you ever so slightly flex the molex connector does the display change?

I'm not really a System 6 person, but I would recommend you start easy and unhook one display at a time. You can have one bad one causing the others to exhibit the same issue.

Otherwise I'd start by checking/reflowing MPU headers, checking resistor values and cap conditions. PIA's are also pretty infamous for causing this type of issue as well. Good luck nailing this one down.
 
Also check the resistors on the master display board (where the credit/match display is located) - if the issues persist with both players 1 & 2 disconnected, look for burned/open resistors on that board - R1 through R14. I've had several cases where a bad display will cause the resistor to cook, so if you find a bad one, test it with the player 1 and 2 displays disconnected to make sure it doesn't burn again (in which case it may be your credit/match glass).

Worst-case, suspect the UDN7180A @ IC9. You can use a logic probe to test the inputs & outputs (they should all be pulsing).

Wish my Gorgar backglass was as nice as yours!

You have lost segment "b" for P1, P2, & Master which depending on which master you have would indicate a defective IC9.

The master I have has the chips not the resistors and is labeled something like 18096 or something. Where/what is IC9? I am completely new to this but dont mind learning.....Thanks

Pic of your master would be helpful, to make sure we are talking about the same master
 
excuse my ignorance, I have no idea where R2 would be. Did you mean the chip right up snug to the little display that would indicate the credits? HOw would I test it? I have a multimeter........
 
Yes, IC9 is the chip snug up against the glass on the left. Above that is a group of resistors, R2 is the 9th one counting from the left to right. R1 is the one all the way to the right in that group. The value of R2 should be 10K ohm. Verify that R2 is not open and that it is within spec. (power off, of course)
 
Ok, checked it. It isnt giving me a reading all the other ones I tested are right around 10. So do I need to swap that out? If so what do I look for and can it be easily found via radio shack? Thanks for your expertise.........

if its not a connection issue, then I'd check the resistor as well. Don't usually find the IC's going bad atleast from my dealings with this pin.
