I didnt want to make a new post but odds are I wont get an answer in the other. I have a Gorgar which is missing some segments I found a burnt resistor on the master display and replaced it. Fired it up and nothing segments still missing then I decided to touch the resistor and it is flaming hot where the others are cool. It gets too hot to touch almost instantly. Im wondering what could I have done wrong. I checked the solder work and its not bridged. The only thing I can think of is that silver solder wont work for this application? Or there is another problem with the master display which is why the resistor burnt up in the first place.

Bam! Player one display was in fact shorting the rest. Unhooked and all others had segments and resistor didnt heat up :). So now how do I determine whats wrong with the player one display? Thanks for the info I thought my first time soldering on a master display was a failure.

Well, the bad news is that there really isn't much to the individual displays other than the board and the glass. Just to make sure that it is the player 1 display, and not player 2, you'll have to swap a known-good display into that spot. #3 or #4 would work fine.

But to get it all working 100%, you'll need to replace the bad display completely. You could possibly get just a new glass, but that's kinda delicate work if you're new at soldering.

I already switched player four into player one's spot and it works perfectly. At least I can play three players and actually see what the high score is. Guess Ill have to search around for a new display.

With most other things I would also maybe suggest sending the display board out for repair, but considering the cost of the glass plus shipping and labor, it's really not worth it a lot of the time. Quickly adds up to the price of just buying a good display.

Where can I get the glass? I guess I wouldnt mind trying to fx it my self as Im actually getting quite good desoldering and soldering on these old boards I have.

Most of the bigger pinball parts places have the 6 digit glasses, but you need to be careful. The ones available these days have a bubble of glass on the backside, and the board needs to have the hole available for it. They also usually run about 50-60 bucks just for the glass.

You actually may get off cheaper buying a used working display on E-bay or via a forum post.
