OK...I need a little help with what Im hunting. I would like a jamma connector that can be soldered to a circuit board. There seems to be millions of connectors all set up with pins for wiring. Id like one that has pins the can be directly soldered to a circuit card. Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks, Tracy

Think that one takes wires...Looking for one with solid pins that would solder straight to a PCB. I know that they are out there. I just don't have the skills to look one up on Mouser. It seems like all the arcade parts places sell the ones to direct wire.

Thanks,
Tracy

It depends on HOW you want to solder to a circuit board.

Do you want to solder it in thru-hole?

Do you want to connect it to a current male JAMMA connector to that it is now female?

Do you want it to be parallel to the PCB or perpendicular?

Thru hole....right angle would be best/ Im using it to make a JROK multi williams adapter. It will connect to a male card.

Thanks,
Tracy

You need one with PC pins on it for through hole. They are much less common to find than the regular ones. If your building an adapter from scratch its easier to just solder the standard connector to a fingerboard. I use the JB-3 fingerboard from jammaboards for most of my adapters. Im not sure if it will work for what your doing but you can check it out.

Trying to make an adapter to install a JROK multi willams card into a Defender cabinet. I want to use the Defender harness. I could use a standard wired jamma if I could find connectors that would interface the Defender wiring harness connectors. I know that Bob Roberts does not have them.

Has anyone made their own adapter for this application? If so how did you do it?

Tracy

I think I understand what you want to do : Install the Multi-Williams in your Williams cabinet without replacing any of the wiring or removing the connectors on the facory wiring. Correct?

It seems your thought is to mount a female 56 pin edge connector on a circuit board and then add all the diffrent connectors for the Willams wiring harness and wire the two together on the circuit board. Does that also sound right?

I have another idea that might be a little easier to impliment. Buy a standard JAMMA wiring harness and cut it to having only about a foot of wiring. Then solder the wires to the type of connectors that Oryk Zinyo is talking about. You will save yourself a lot if time and have fewer possible failure points that way.

Bingo!

Yep...after reading his post I finally figured out what I needed and that is exactly what Im going to do. I now have all the stuff on order and will make up about 3 adapters. Ill sell the spares on here and get my money back.

Thanks everybody for the help...

Tracy

Hey Tracy,

In case you missed it, this is an old thread about making adapters
http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=149613

It's got the example of Stargate which is the closest to Defender along with the wire lengths that I found worked best.

Thanks James...I have everything on order to make 3 or 4. I figure Ill sell the rest to make my money back. Either way, did you just use heatshrink on the parts after they were built up?

Thanks,
Tracy

got the diagram...thanks. Dont worry about HS. Just wanted to know if that is what you used. Im good to go...thanks again

Tracy

Just added the Defender wiring :) http://jrok.com/hardware/wsf/defender_2_JAMMA.jpg

Yes, I think it was 3 or 4 different widths of heatshrink, I can check see what they were. Don't remember if the power connector just used the same width as coin and controls.
