I don't have a ton of electrical component knowledge and i know this is going to sound like a silly question but what is this chip i have shown in the attached picture? (with A-16217 label on it)

Can i get a replacement at radioshack?

reason i ask is i have another one of this same board where this chip is missing and would like to find a replacement so i can test it and move on from there.

edit: you know i bet this is in the manual for the board.... (sigh, been one of those days).

according to the manual UE8 is a IC 20L8 (radioshack available??) and does it need to be programmed??

That's a PAL, it certainly does need to be programmed. Unfortunately these usually have protection bits set so they can't be read by normal means, which game is this?

it's a mk2 board unfortunately so i can't snag it off another board :(

You could pull the chip you have and try to read it in a programmer - there's a slim (VERY SLIM) chance that someone forgot to program the security fuses on it.

It's not much of a hope, but better than none, I suppose.

Damn, Ian i might take you up on that at some point, it's just a spare board tho so no big loss i suppose.

Thanks everyone for the input!

Assuming you can get a JEDEC file from the device --
If it truly is a 20L8 then it is doubtful that you will find any blank 20L8's out there. Many programmers can convert the old 20L8's to the newer GAL 22V10 format. 22V10's are far easier to find than the old 20L8's.

This isn't a high priority and is slightly over my head right now as i don't know a ton about electronics but i'd more than welcome any "Hook Ups". costs/shipping can also be compensated of course.

This might not even be the only issue with this board it's just what i noticed when i got it, but i'm sure it's required even just for a test power up.

Much appreciated everyone!!!!

I have it.

I just scrapped out an old MKII board that had bad corrosion damage on it and it was sitting in the box for the board recycler. The chip is sitting here on my desk in some anti-static foam.

PM me your address and I'll drop it in a package and ship it to you. You can PP me a couple of bucks for shipping afterwards if you want.
