School me on sit down drivers

Thanks for the input guys, I had completely forgotten NFS made fill sized games. I'll ad those to my list.

Ideally I'd like to spend ~$1.5k, but obviously less is better. What makes me drawn to Initial D is the card reader. I like the idea that you continue your game through different play sessions. Are there any other games with a similar feature?

F-Zero AX does:

I thought that Ridge Racer V did too, but I can't remember for sure.

And of course any Neo Geo game will use a memory card, but none of the racing games are sit down in fact they are top down.

Speaking of Neo Geo, the Hyper 64 had 2 racing games:

Off beat racer:

and Round Trip RV

Also I know where there is dual setup of these that could be had for $500:

initial d is an amazing game but are you a fan of the anime? (curious), it is about drifting, pending which version depends on the physics. IDV3 was my favorite, v4 feel like you drive on ice, and v5 which you cant afford is much better than all of them. I would try to find a v3. also note the shifter on the right (up and down only) cause rhd in jp.

Also note the cards are not easy to come by. there very expensive as well

also maximum tune has the card reader, not sure about these cards in terms of finding, but the game is more user friendly, highway racing, as opposed to downhill drifting where you are shooting for fastest time.

Rush 2049 has a keypad to keep track of your progress. Better than using a card IMO; nothing to buy, nothing to lose.

I am a big fan of the Rush series. They are awesome drivers, linked or not.

If you want to get a taste of the newer drivers, go to Cedar Point. There they have NFS Underground (linked), Exotica(linked), Sega Super Gt (8 linked) Daytonas (8 linked) Rush etc. Though I did not see any Initial D drivers.

Any experience with V1?

not really, I have played 2 and 3 and there similiar, I cant image 1 being to far behind, however cards are gonna be really hard to find, I know there real hard to find for 3 already. The thing with the cards is you are able to use cards from the previous models to one model up, like v2 cards work on v3, also note that cards expire after 50 or 100 plays.

seems v1 is 4 tracks, total of 16 combos, uphill, downhill, night, day I would assume. not sure if weather is in v1.

v2. adds 2 more courses, so I would say v1 isnt to bad only 3 more cars

v3. adds another 2 courses, and more cars/opponents

I completely forgot about Pod Racer. I played the $#it out of it on N64, but never in the arcade. How is it? How many tracks? Savable progress? I'm guessing the modification system is gone (where you put better parts on your pod between rounds)...

wow. thats wild, I have seen 100 go for about 300$ thats a good deal for a bunch, you gotta figure they are about 1 -1.25 in the arcade

but also not gonna work with v1. also i was semi wrong about the cards working with each other. transfers work, meaning a saved game on v2 will work on v3 but you lose everything except the points, which is for tunes and stuff, you can not put a v2 card blank into v3. sorry about that

also card renewal is every 50 plays *save data but needs a new card

Son of a...

Do I take the risk that I will get a V2? I'm kinda thinking no, but damn, that is a good dead.

i would seriously say find a v3. there more common and there not to expensive, 8bitnintendo is selling a twin cheap with one side working the other not quite

also dont think I have ever seen a v2 for sale

The only one I know of for sale is a V2 for $2k an hour away. I'm not looking to buy just yet though. Hell, that one's been for sale since at least last Sept...

Anyone have any input on this?

The N64 game is not a port of Star Wars: Racer Arcade. There is no card system in the arcade game, so no saving progress. There are four courses and 18 pilots.

I don't think you can modify anything about the pods. It has been a while since I've played it though.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend this game as the hardware is prone to failure and it is not easily repairable.

I'd recommend Super GT Plus. It's got great visuals, awesome music, and the Plus upgrade adds some fun to the mix.

Here's a thread with pics and video I made on it a while ago.

I've pretty much narrowed it down to Super GT and Initial D
