ok guys, i've recently aquired two Battelzone cabinets, one being in nice shape, the other one's pretty beat (especially the sideart and the bottom of the cab). i can use some parts of the second one though to make a real nice BZ out of the two, which leaves me with a spare Battlezone cabinet (including the vector monitor and the power supply).

from what I know, Battlezone and Red Baron use the same cabinet style, but where Battlezone has a plastic monitor shroud, Red Baron seems to have some kind of additional wood around the monitor (apart from a different control panel amongst some other stuff of course).

Red Baron seems to be a pretty rare game, in Germany the chances of finding one are ZERO!

therefore my question(s):
is it possible (and worthwhile) to convert a Battlezone cabinet to Red Baron? which additional parts would i need? do the cockpit and the upright version have the same wiring harness?

with the silkscreened sideart and control panel overlay coming out shortly, now would probably be a good time to jump aboard, but the question remains: is that doable?

thanks for all your input, guys!!!

Yes you can.. Its exactly the same cabinet.. Parts will not be easy to find but kits do come up from time to time.. Parts will not be cheap..

This old game has the sideart...

Same PCB, but RB has a an additional Math Board...IIRC. Different side art, marquee, and monitor bezel, and shoud. Also, the control panel only has 1 gymbal style analog joystick whereas BZ has two. The RB joystick is in the center of the control panel. I think that's the differences.

A working board set will be a tough and expensive find. I love mine not a very deep game but has staying power in my collection. I also like it better than battlezone. You might be better off finding a beater and having someone ship you all the art and boards. Either way good luck

I can comment on the PCBs. The AVG or larger main board can be made from modifying a BZ main AVG board by changing out the ROMS and one becomes a 2732 instead of a 2716, bending up a leg, and adding a wire for the additional address line. This is well documented and you'll find that by web search.

The AUX board is indeed unique and will be the tougher to track down. My advice is to try to track down a boardset, working or not as long as it is repairable. There are a few folks here who repair them. They do need to be bulletproofed and you can find some info by searching the forums here.

Would not be a bad idea to re-cap your AR board and replace the "big Blue" cap on the transformer block.
