My kids just bought the beta version of Minecraft. They are playing with it in single-player mode. I can read about it but thought maybe folks here could give some quick insight rather than digging around. Is there anything I need to be concerned about with letting them connect to multi-player servers? Any tips on that? Do they cost money to use? What else should I know?

Thanks!

talk to mattroid. I liked it a lot and was hooked for a bit but it sucks single player, playing with a friend is awesome but there are a lot of server issues. me and zzaz3 played non stop for a bit but it was a constant wait to see if he was on before I would play

I bought it, played Survival mode for a few weeks and got hellishly bored of it and haven't touched it since.

Servers are privately run, and no they don't cost anything, you can even run your own.
If your kids can read, it's always possible someone may say something inappropriate by text, but otherwise...nothing to worry about.
I've never seen anyone really bother to talk though, too busy making stuff.

Probably not too much to worry about. We play on our own server, so I can't speak much in regard to 'kid-friendly' servers out there. But yeah, most people are busy building, not talking. And if they are, they're usually talking about building......probably about building giant wangs.

We had a thread going for a while if you want to take a look: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=151512

I haven't played much lately. I'm waiting for the "final" release to come out (tomorrow, I think?) before updating the server and starting over again. A LOT of stuff has been added since I last played...potions, mob babies...all kinds of stuff.

Honestly, a good place to start looking/reading is the wiki here: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Minecraft_Wiki
