What is the difference between 3AG, AGC, MDL, etc.??? I was told that the 3AG and AGC were fast-blow and the MDL were slow-blow, but I got confused. I am getting fuses for my Asteroids (w/G05) and my Tempest (w/WG K6100). I looked up the fuses in the manuals and they list that you need 3AG slow-blow fuses (in different Amps). Will MDL fuses work as long as the pack says slow-blow???

correct, AGC are quick blow, MDL is slow blow

the 3AG actually identifies the fuse type, not if its slow or fast. the 3 denotes its a standard 1 1/4" fuse, the AG is glass body

What wildwest3163 said is correct. But I have some uber-fuse-geek details to add:

<geek>
The "3" in 3AG not only signifies 1/4" diameter, but also 1 1/4" length. For example, the 1AG size is also 1/4" diameter, but is are 5/8" long.

It's also worth noting that "ACG" and "MDL" are the designations used by Bussmann (a major, and long-time, fuse manufacturer). The other major manufacturer is Littlefuse, and they use different designations: "312" for fast-acting (equiv to "ACG"), and "313" for time-delay (equiv. to "MDL").

And for the IP geeks: "Slo-Blo" is a registered trademark of Littlefuse. The generic term is a "time-delay" fuse, and Bussmann refers to theirs as such.

Someone who knows so much about fuses should know it's Littelfuse, not Littlefuse ;)

Thanks for correcting me. I've always mis-read it, seeing what I wanted to see, rather that what it is.

I suppose Bussmann is also technically "Cooper-Bussmann" now, too...

I never noticed that. Im a bit of a speedreader and my mind processes words by their letters regardles of thier order, plus my wife and a couple friends have problems with transposing letters when they write anyway so Im used to out of order letters anyway. All these years Ive assumed the incorrect spelling:rolleyes:
