What do you guys do when you have to stitch an arcade marquee scan together from 3 scans because it's 2 wide for just 2? You get all sorts of shadows and distortions at the edges because of the center scan not being able to lie flat in the bed. Then if you get one of the 3 scans off even by 1/2 degree, not everything lines up as it should and you keep trying to line it up for hours. I am trying to scan a mylar marquee, so it is flexible, but it still won't lie flat due to the scanner bed's plastic edges. You can also see where the colors get darker and lighter due to shadow and glare:

What's the secret?

I use an hp 4600 series scanner as it is perfectly flat. To stich i use Hugin (free panorama sticher) It can tweeked to work well with scans.

+1. A perfectly flat scanner is the answer.

EDIT: but that scan of your should be easily tweaked in Photoshop by playing with the brightness and contrast.
