Is there one single honest site on the entire internet that actually sells obsolete chips?

EVERY freak'in site I've inquired with claims to have stock, but ends up either not having the chips they show on hand (most common) or quoting some ridiculous price (like $47 bucks for a chip that is normally $2 bucks).

Phone conversations, emails, web-forms, and still no stock on a STK25C48-W4 by Simtek

I'd like to populate the old MAD Pacs I built years ago, but this one chip seems elusive. Every few months I'll give it another try, still no joy.

Are there substitute parts?

Quest (http://www.questcomp.com/index.aspx) has had some hard to find parts for decent prices. I searched for your part and didn't see it though.

I got a bad batch of parts from them once, and they refunded my money quickly and with no problems. I just ordered from them recently and got everything quickly.

I've tried substitute parts in the past and there are access time limitations. Since this is emulating another device, that latency shows up as a video artifact.

So far, only the original works properly and that's after trying other devices and making adapters and even boosting the signal.

What frustrates me about these brokers is that they pretend to have stock that they don't have, they're just counting on opportunities to come their way via their fake stock levels; then they'll try to find stock to quote and resell.

It all amounts to a huge waste of time.

Yeah, I ignore any site that has "$CALL" on it. That usually means "Bend over here it comes!". Quest has been really good about their stock as far as I have experienced.
