SC3 Goes Nuclear!!!!

New Venue, New Location, New Attractions, Old Games (just the way we like 'em!)

SC3 is teaming up with Nucleus, an art gallery and store in the northern L.A. area, to bring you a blowout arcade and console event. The party will take place on Saturday, March 5, 2011, from 12 noon to 12 midnight, at the Nucleus gallery in Alhambra, CA. Admission to the event is $10 if you pre-register online or $15 at the door. ...Visit the Nucleus event registration page to order your tickets.

Nucleus is already making a name for itself among videogamers by featuring cutting-edge exhibits of game-inspired artworks and live nerdcore/chiptune concerts. Now it will be introduced to classic gamers in a big way as SC3 brings over 40 classic arcade machines and dozens of vintage home consoles to the exhibit floor for 12 hours of pure, nonstop gaming. Live music, featuring 8-bit and chiptune artists, will begin late in the evening. An all-videogame version of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" will challenge your knowledge of gaming trivia. Traditional SC3 attractions, including SC3-TV, '80s music, a video game trading room, and Rock Band will also return. Free refreshments will not be provided at this event – food and drink are not allowed within the gallery – but food trucks will be offering fare outside, and there are any number of local restaurants within easy reach of the venue.

SC3 is truly excited about this. It's the next logical step for us. If you attended our previous SC3 party back in April, you saw 200 people cram into a backyard in Claremont for six hours of classic gaming mayhem. It was amazing, but beyond capacity. We knew we'd need an actual "facility" for our next event. So we began the search, and eventually found Nucleus. Of course hammering out all the details has taken time – that's why we missed our traditional September event – but Nucleus has been fantastic about everything. They're embracing the gaming community; even SC3's hardcore retro nerdiness doesn't scare them. The result is going to be the biggest, best SC3 event you've ever seen! Stay tuned to this web site, and in particular the Future Meeting page, for more details as they become available.

You must register at Nucleus to attend this event. Go to our website for more information...

****** TO ALL THE SOCAL ARCADE COLLECTORS!!

We need volunteers for this event and we need arcade games too. Please let me know if you can help. All volunteers will of course get in the event for free. More details to come. Getting excited about this!

Awesome, wish I was local. My friend, Sanjay Patel, just had a book signing at Nucleus.

This looks awesome! I see it is in Alhambra, M1A do you have a gun I can borrow? :) You know the next logical step is a Saturday/Sunday event at a place with a hotel, right?

I think most people think of Alhambra as an Asian community nowadays. The part that borders El Sereno is still mostly hispanic. The main commercial district has been completely revitalized.

It's referred to as a poor man's "San Marino"....

If it's in Southern California... it's in a bad area. ;)

Mission Viejo, Irvine, Lake Forest, Huntington Beach, Orange, Chino Hills and a few other cities in SoCal have some of the lowest crime rates in the nation. So, by that measure, no.

But, when it comes to deep-dish pizza: terrible area to find any.

So North Alhambra = good, South = bad? That explains it then, I've only been on the South side...

That's exactly right. Nucleus is located north in Alhambra and is in a very nice and safe area. And yes, if this new location works out, we could take it the next step with sat/sun hotel thing :)

But you've got the best Korean BBQ in the state so it works out... :)

Excellent Korean BBQ. And we've got great Mongolian BBQs, too. Which I love.

But, for me, none of it makes up for good deep dish. And it's not just bad - it's abysmally bad every place I've tried it that's claimed to offer it.

I'd happily settle for a UNO's if need be.

Actually, Masa in Echo Park makes a passable deep dish pizza. The owners are from Chicago and take it very seriously.

I think the best pizza in LA is Casa Bianca in Eagle Rock.

Since this thread got derailed, I might as well chime in on my favorie hole-in-the-wall pizza joints. I am more of an NYC pizza lover. Here is my list...

1. Damiano Mr Pizza, Los Angeles (the best Calzone EVER)
2. Casa Bianca (aka "Pizza Pie"), Eagle Rock
3. Larchmount Pizza Co., L.A.
4. San Biagio's, Upland
5. Palermo, Los Feliz Village
6. Two Boots, Echo Park

This is really good news to hear. I'm really excited about this.
Congrats to Steve and the Sc3 crew for taking this to the next level, and keeping the scene alive.
Always enjoyed the backyard parties and this seems like it's gonna be pumped up to another level.
Let's hope this is a spark which ignites a so cal Cal extreme type if thing.

About 3 years ago I shot a short film inside of Damiano's. We had the lights on.

Let me just say that there is a reason why they keep the lights off.

I haven't eaten there since.
