SC3 / Arcade party "Back to the Back Yard!" Nov 10th in SoCal

******PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A PRIVATE PARTY AND NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC*****

The long wait is over! We are pleased to announce that the next SC3 Arcade Party will take place on Saturday, November 10, 2012. And because you asked for it – or rather, demanded it, loudly and repeatedly – we are going "back to the back yard" and throwing a house-party at the same Claremont residence that hosted our events from 2006 to 2010. That's right: once again we'll be cramming several dozen arcade machines and classic home consoles into a lucky home's back yard. If you attended one of the old parties, you know it'll be tight, but it'll be great!

We had a blast with our events at Nucleus Gallery, but we decided to return to our former home for a number of reasons. First, the use of a public venue resulted in greater expense. Second, the venue was further from where most of our machines are housed, leading to even more expense and logistical problems (plus moving that many heavy machines that far is just a pain). But most importantly, we really missed the old house-party vibe. Conventions and pay-for-admission events are great, but they lack that sense of "just a bunch of friends getting together to hang out and play games" which is so central to what SC3 is all about. So we're going back to basics, making SC3 less about "the event" and more about the fun. With that in mind, we've made some changes from the old format. Here are the details:

Event Schedule

The November 10th party opens at 4 p.m. and lasts until midnight. Note that the 4 p.m. start time is two hours earlier than previous backyard parties. Although this event will end at the same time as previous parties – midnight – all the action will move out of the house at 9 p.m. Attendees of previous events might remember that we usually have games available on a big 65" HDTV inside; that will end at 9 p.m. so that the people who live in the house can get some rest!

Food Schedule

SC3's food of choice – pizza – will be served at this event. We will be making pizza runs at scheduled times ONLY. Our initial pizza schedule is: 4 p.m., 7 p.m., and 10 p.m., but is subject to change; we'll have the final schedule posted clearly during the event. Please make a note of it so you don't miss out on the deliciousness! We'll also have some snacks, cold sodas and water on hand. Typically the liquid refreshments last the night but the snacks tend to be eaten quickly, so be sure to grab something as soon as you're hungry!

Donations Are Appreciated!

Moving back to a private venue does cut down our costs, but please remember that our pizza and electric bills are still substantial! We greatly appreciate your donations – in fact, we need them in order to keep SC3 humming. We humbly request a donation of at least $5 per adult attendee, and we thank you in advance.

RSVP Today!

If you want to attend, you must fill out this RSVP form. If your registration is accepted, you will be informed via email. Simple! Remember, it's essential that you RSVP ahead of time – space is limited at this location and we need an accurate headcount!

Thanks as always for your support and remember to keep an eye on this site for more announcements!

Please don't forget to bring your trade fodder (home or arcade), cameras, Warlords $1 bills, Track and Field Combs/pencils, rare show-off items, toys for Teddy, and Arc-welding supplies.

...I'm still trying to figure out what to do with the Arc-welding stuff. I should have something in a month.

Dont forget, SC3 is also about the 'collector' (hence the name lol). If you have any video game related 'stuff' that you want to sell, trade or give away, Please bring it!!

The next meeting of the Southern California Classic Collectors is nearly here! The event is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 10th, from 4:00 p.m. until midnight, in Claremont, CA.

Like our previous backyard parties, this event will be filled with delicious pizza. The pizza will be arriving at scheduled times throughout the evening. We plan to have other snacks and drinks available as well, but please make a note of the schedule so you don't go hungry!

Event Schedule

4pm: Show opens; first pizza delivery; SC3-TV in the dining area
5pm: SC3 Film Festival in the dining area, featuring:
"The Video Craze" trailer
"The Space Invaders: In Search of Lost Time" full-length feature, possible Q&A with director Jeff Von Ward
7pm: Final pizza delivery

12am: Game Over

THROUGHOUT THE EVENT there will be DOZENS of vintage coin-ops and home consoles on free play, games on the 65" HDTV (until 9pm), and the chance to swap your classic gaming carts and systems with fellow collectors. We hope to see you there!

I just wanted to let everyone know that we now have an Adventurevision coming. Rarest of classic gaming birds, and quite the curiosity. Come and play a real one just to say you've done so. Thanks to Rik M of www.handheldmuseum.com for this.

Steve's the point man for full-sized quarter munchers, but here's the scheduled home systems:
The big 3 from Atari: 26,52,78.
Atari XEGS
Inty
Colecovision
Vectrex
NES
SNES
C64
Amiga CD32 (a SC3 first!)
N64 with Goldeneye 4-player deathmatch
Odyssey 2
Dreamcast
Genesis with MD/SMS muticart.

And a little device called a MC-116; a little larger than a 2600 cart, it can play natively 2600, C64, and Amiga games. Not emulation.
