Saying "Hi" and offering some free tokens (info at the end)
Hi all - I wanted to introduce myself (or re-introduce myself for those who spent most their time on R.G.V.A.C in the 90's) and offer up some free tokens before I post some FS items. After all, I saw a poll on here that said around 50% of the people here have been collecting < 5 years!
I've been collecting now for nearly 18 years give or take. Over the years I've had the good fortune to be involved in several bulk buys and own many "grails". When I started, it was just me. Today it is me, a wife, and three kids. Needless to say, I don't have the time I once did to devote to this hobby. I was basically on hiatus for about 8-10 years, but have become interested in games (and pins) once again. However, I've had way too much "stuff" and want to focus my collecting. A couple years ago I started selling off a large chunk of my complete machines. At that time I sold my Cockpit Missile Command, Major Havoc, Enviro Discs of Tron, Tempest, Dragon's Lair 2/SA, Star Castle, Omega Race, Asteroids, etc. etc... Truly, it is better to have had and lost than to never have had at all!
Today I have a few odds and ends, but my "grail" is a home use only Robotron cocktail. I also have a 25" cockpit Star Wars (with Clay's version 1 ESB kit), a caberet Robotron, Gravitar, and a huge Street Fighter 1 cabinet that I'm making into a MAME/JAMMA cabinet. I've also gotten interested in pins. Somewhere between 2001 and 2004 I picked up Star Trek TNG, Twilight Zone, and Medieval Madness. Everyone from my kids to my parents likes playing pinball, so it's been a fun addition.
My focus used to be to collect a lot of stuff. I believe at one time in the 90's I had something like 40 working machines and 150 or so working boards listed on KLOV. My focus today is on getting a few really nice machines, and keeping them working! Who knows, maybe someday when the kids are gone I'll go back to a larger collection.
Now that most my machines are gone (still have a Blasteroids if you're interested [central MN]) I have turned my attention to the boards and parts. Everything I have (for the most part) has been stored in boxes with static-free bubble wrap. I'm trying to go through and test what I can, photograph, and offer for a reasonable price. I was thinking of eBay as traffic on RGVAC was low, but then I found a marketplace here. I'll be posting later this evening with my first batch of boards, kits, and hardware.
While I'm a newbie here, I imagine there are some folks that will remember me and maybe even vouch for me. I'm the same [email protected] that has postings on RGVAC going back to 1996, when I purchased the 2084.com domain. I'm a collector, not an operator, and hope to help other collectors by selling here.
Now then, about those free tokens. I've got at least four (and I'll likely find more) old tokens from a restaurant/arcade in Fargo, ND. It is Mom's Kitchen and Sparks arcade. I haven't been there in years, but I imagine the arcade is gone (Mom's is still there according to Google). Anyhow, to get your free token, PM me with a reason you'd like the token. I'd prefer to give them to a token collector (so mention that if you do). If I like your story, I'll request your address and send it out. I've attached a photo with a sample (two tokens shown so you can see front and back).
So there you go... a relative old timer coming home
Oh, and I'm just starting to spin up my www.2084.com site. It is really bare-bones, but feel free to have a look. Sadly I don't have a lot of photos (at least in electronic form) from my collecting heyday. I think I bought my first digital camera around 2000 or so. I do have quite a few other photos of the things I sold more recently, but they're not out there yet.
Take Care,
-Stormy.
