I've seen these things online and seen videos but videos just don't do anything justice. Last night I saw a Star Wars with an LCD and the Vector VGA. The OP was telling me it looks just as good if not better than the original monitors. I literally said, "You're so full of shit. There's no way to faithfully reproduce vectors." He said follow me. He fired up the SW and low and behold there in front of me was the most god awful attempt to reproduce a vector. It literally made the game look fake lol.

To the joe blow that never played one he wouldn't know the difference. But to any vector head it'd make you about half sick to your stomach. When asked what I thought I said, "Like I said 3 minutes ago - you're full of shit."

Thanks for setting him straight Deadly! :D

Uhhh, the VectorVGA website says the product doesn't support Star Wars. Maybe that's why it didn't look so hot?

???

i remember playing a vector (Space Duel?) at the Funspot this summer that was running on an LCD. not even close to the real thing, and i didn't even need the row of vectors surrounding it to know it.

yeah my buddy has a chicago gaming company 100 in 1 or something like that.
It's actually a cool machine but not for authenticity.

Since I have owned a tempest and space duel and played it on there, it is absolute shit.
It would look and sound decent if you had no reference though, lol

Nowhere near alike.

I should point out, my buddy has caught the bug and has 6 or7 classics as well.

Without exception I have never seen a vector game look good on an LCD, period. Most raster games look crappy as well. This card is a easy way to get around a vector monitor but honestly, you can run old versions of mame at higher resolutions on a nice, bright CRT and things can look pretty decent. Of couse mame is not a solution for a broken vector monitor, especially if the rest of the game still works.

I have a Vector VGA and it looks OK (passable) on a CRT computer monitor. I would like to hear your opinion on that kind of set-up. I think you saw the worst set up because it was running on an LCD, which will never look right, no matter how accurately the image is recreated.

Not to mention the fact that they call out that they don't support Star Wars.

Not sure if it was the Vector VGA or another brand but I saw Tempest in person and it looked like crap as well. They wanted more for the unit for the unit then but now its down to $179. Even so $179 plus another $150 to $100 for an monitor your up to $329 your better off just buying the orgional Vector monitor for that price. You will probably save $79 buying the original monitor.

Did you see it on an lcd or a tube?
