Saving peeling paint from Star Wars cabinet?

I recently picked up a Star Wars cabinet (no guts) that is in pretty good shape overall...

It looks like some moisture got on the machine at some point as on one of the rear sides, the sides have expanded a bit beyond the t-molding. In addition, there is minor peeling of the paint (were Atari SW cabs painted or did they have some kind of laminate?).

So, what can I do to halt this progress or at the minimum protect it when I go to move it into the basement? Some whacked out ideas I've considered:
1) glue it back down?
2) Black electrical tape (yuck)?
3) Replace the rear t-molding with some kind of molding that extends around the sides to hold down the peeling? Does such molding exist?

Also, assuming it is placed into a dry environment, can I assume that the wood expansion will not get any worse? Is there any way to reverse the damage that has already been done?

Any suggestions or comments are appreciated!

Thanks,

need pix to say for sure what I'd do.. but, if the peeling does not go all teh way into the actual art and is confined to just black i'd trim the black off at the edge of the art, tape it off, prime and paint.

Okay, here are 2 pictures. The first picture shows how the rear of the right hand side has expanded a bit with moisture:

The second picture shows the peeling paint:

My question is: Is this something we should even worry about? both my AD and BZ have small peels like that. I thought it was from just being moved around. Not that it would continue peeling. what do you guys think?

There isn't much you can do once that stuff expands..however..for the sides you can do what Prok said and mask off the sides..trim excess that is lifting up and paint...I believe that satin black matches the black on the sides of the star wars cabs...I used that for the very bottom of my cab to clean up some rought edges...just make sure to pull off the mask after only a few minutes..so the spot you painted and the original blend together better and you don't get that line that forms when the paint dries...

Okay. I'll give that a try...but I have a few more questions....
1) I assume that black satin finish paint is the same color no matter the manufacturer? Or is there a specific brand that I should stick to?
2) Should the paint be oil or latex?
3) Should I prime the area first?

Thanks!
