Ok wtf is the trick to this? I have a single board max force with the arcade services duo kit on it..

for about a year ive put up with 50 cents a gam and loud sound.. so today i tried for the billionth time to save settings..

i dont know how the heck i did it but i was able to finally save stuff however the volume was set too quiet. Of course now im back to not bieng able to save.. wtf man.. now im stuck with low sounds.. YAY

theres got to be some difference between what the screen says to save and what you actually have to do to save...

Bumping this up - did you ever find a solution for this? I'm having a similar issue with my boardset.

Does it say "Setting EEPROM default values" every time when booting? You may need to leave it on for a minute, then power cycle it so you can see what's on the screen as it boots (monitor may not be warmed up enough during a cold power-on).

I have a 2-board version, and it saves settings just fine. I think you'll find and EEPROM (24-pin socketed IC) near the game code EPROMs. It may be a 48T02 (per the schematics) or a 28C16 (per the MAME driver). Anyhow, that's the chip that stores your settings.

I set mine to free play... As for the volume issue though, do you mean how one thing is real quiet then the next thing is very loud? I've got that too... Love to figure out the consistency of that!

I set it to free play and adjusted the volume down in the menu, then when I exit the menu back to the game freeplay is off and the volume is cranked again.

Thanks - I just wonder why the EEPROM is OK with the standard Maximum Force EPROMS/HD in there but when I upgrade to the Duo ROMS/HD I'm having issues. Maybe a problem with bypassing the security chip like they did with the hack.

Im getting the same thing on mine. Not sure what the deal is, maybe its the harddrive image were using from mame?

Wasn't getting this error using a dual layer board Duo and the same HD.

I'll try switching Max Force back in just to double check later tonight.

Ok Maximum Force EPROMs and HD are back in and I don't get the EEPROM error at all. Hard drive image shouldn't be a problem since they only made one version as far as I know.

The mame chd for blitz 2000 gold is messed up. It won't let you save settings or even change them, not sure how the EPROMs are causing this. The security check removal was was 4 bytes of code that just patched it. Nothing else with the program data was changed. Also saving settings is stored on the harddrive

This is a drive I got from Arcade Services. He's repairing my dual layer board now, when I get that back I'll verify the HD with that.

well its not the harddrive image, I used the same harddrive on original eproms and it works fine

its gotta be the hack on the eproms, only thing left. You guys can return them for a refund.

well, I got it to work, I had to undo the rom check fix. The version I have now will let you save your settings and the game plays fine BUT if you do the ROM check it fails.
