This past spring, I restored an converted MK2 cab back to its original glory. A few months ago, an Op was at my house to bring me a project cabinet (DK) and wanted to see the work I did on the Soul Calibur II > MK2 deconversion. Apparently he liked what he saw and brought me one to do for him this past weekend!

So here we have a MK2 converted to Area 51...

Should be pretty easy as the cab looks to be in excellent shape... Only real problem is there are two 2" holes drilled in the front of the control panel to accomodate the Area 51 guns :( Looks like I'll be needing a repro piece of art for the control panel front... Any recomendations?

Started the deconversion work last night and here are some pics:

Starting out... Gotta love that medalion art:

The art underneath is in excellent condition! Better then my own MK2 cab... Wonder if he would noticed if I swapped cabs? Lol

Next steps: Remove all the area 51 stuff from the inside of the cabinet... Check the Jamma harness and see if there have been any major modifications, vaccuum the inside of the cabinet, citristrip the other side.... Then the rebuilding begins!

So, an Op wants you to deconvert something (that he likely converted in the first place) for him. Now, I've heard it all. Good work, btw.

I'm thinking he had a location request an MK game to go along with their NBA Jam... i'm sure he didn't convert it though... I think he has only been in the business since the mid 2000's

Raiden looks much happier, i broke out the citristrip again last night myself. looking forward to doing another cabinet or two or three :D

Personally i think the paint stripping takes the most time, the internals seem to go by really fast where it takes me about 4 hours to do each side of a cabinet (100% done ready for touch up)

edit: what's up with what looks like a big square chunk taken out of the back door?

Lol, different back door... That back is off of my didicated Maximum Force... The square goes around the power supply... I was doing monitor adjustments in between citristrip applications

Talked to the op today... he says he has a few more MK2 style cabs... He is going to check to see if they are in fact MK2 (not 3/4) and see how the control panels look... Maybe I'll find one I can citristrip and call it a day.

Thanks Meph...

Got the inside shop vac'd out tonight... No Hiding quarters :(

But i did get the marquee installed:

Here is the control panel i'm either going to have to fill, sand, and sticker or see if the op has another one:

Did you cut that yourself or was it already cut? It sure seems like it's REALLY high and off center. Just saying. Looks great otherwise.

Yea, I know :/ - It came to me already cut

I think it will be ok though...

On a side note, I didn't get to citristrip the other side last night... Hopefully I'll be able to get that done tonight, or at least by the weekend...
