Game was working and I pulled the board stack to replace the 6116 with a DS1220Y. After I did that, all I get is a popping sound from the speakers. I put back the 6116 and no change.

I swapped the dual amp board with a known working one and still no sound.

I also swapped in an MCR adapter and switching power supply from my Kick to rule out the power supply. Still no sound.

What should I be looking at next?

Check the connection on the 3 pin connector (has only 2 wires populated) from the ssio to the power supply. The board has 2 channels so it is doubtful both AY chips failed at once. Same thing for the DUAL amp board.

This and check the connector on the board where you plug in the audio cable. And check that cable for broken wires... I had my ground (braided shield IIRC) break on me when I was removing and replacing my board a lot. Patched it up and she started working right again.

Ssio

The SSIO board is the top of the stack correct? I don't see a 3 pin connector

The 3 pin connector is on the power supply. The audio connector on the ssio (top board of stack) is the one with the bare metal shield wire going to it. It is one of the connectors towards the rear of the cab.

Are you getting any error on powerup? (Sound Board Interface Error?) I would also check pin 20 on the J1 Connector to the CPU. (Large power connector) The audio has it's own ground, and if this has a bad connection- you will not have sounds.

Okay, thanks I'll check on that tonight.

No errors at all.

check the connectors on the amp board. the wires can break (and have on my tron and satan's hollow) and you can lose sound just through that.

The three pin connector looks good.

Did a continuity check on each of those wires and all was good

I still need to check pin 20

have you checked your +12v? also, if you move/manipulate the audio harness where it connects to the amp board, do you get anything, or does the sound come back?

didn't check the 12v as I'm not sure where to check it. However, I have already ruled out the power supply as I tested with a switching power supply and MCR adapter. Moving the audio harness doesn't do anything.

It's not that I don't get any sound, but when a sound is supposed to play, I just get a clicking sound.

You nailed it Mark! I went to check pin 20 and found that I had no pin 20. I looked around in the cab and found the broken wire. It broke off right at the connector and I didn't see it in the mix of wires. Put it back in place and sound works.

Thanks everyone for the tips!

Sorry to bump this old tread but were is that pin u checked as I have the same prob with
A tron I just picked up, Ron

pin 20 on the J1 Connector to the CPU. (Large power connector)

If your Tron is oriented the same way, looking in from the back, it is on the side of the board stack away from you. Only one connection on that side.
