so, on my satan's hollow, the sound cuts in and out, and sometimes i get some random solid tones as well, with no other game sound. when the sound fades, it's like you almost cranked the volume all the way down, and then back up. i haven't had time to really look at it yet, but anyone have a rough idea of the area i should look at? the speaker connections are good. there is some type of small sound board or amp or something on the left side wall of the cab. the connectors going to it were a little loose, so i plugged them in all the way. no change, though. briefly looking online at the mcr faq, i see there is a ss/io board. is that something i should look at, or could this be more of a volume pot type of issue. when the sound does come through it is nice and clear, so i would almost think it it is more of a sound delivery issue rather than a sound generation issue.

oh, and those ribbon cables in the board sandwich, are they safe to check? they look super fragile, so i didn't touch them, don't know if i should check those like the interconnect cables on my dk boardset...

Have you tried moving the volume pot quickly back and forth from one extreme to the other? Sometimes they get dirty and be be cleaned a bit that way.

Your power supply may need to be recapped, it is common. Check your voltages when the problem happens and write down the readings.

allright, now looking at it where's the best spot on it to measure the voltages??? i measured +12 off connector j4 pin 12 on the p/s itself, right at 12.06. however, measuring one of the 3 +5 pins on the same j4 connector measures right at 4.53, and turning the pots on the p/s board didn't change it either direction.

so, am i measuring this correctly, and if so, which pot should adjust which voltage?

also, soundwise, i have noticed the sounds aren't correct to what they should be, i.e., the tones are off and don't play the right tune intermittently, it may just be 3 different tones instead of the opening tune, for example.

and not to latch a different issue onto this, i have noticed that i get intermittent random garbage on the right side of the screen, like a few random pixels here and there up and down the right 1/5 of the screen.. i noticed it doing this on the satan's hollow at funspot as well. is this just normal for these games or possibly related to this same issue?

allright, so got some sleep last night so i'm actually able to think today. i retested the +12 at the little amp board itself, it reads a steady 15.05 and then drops to 14.6-14.8 when a sound is played. is that the correct place to test it, and is that way outta line, then?

also, where is the best spot on this to test the +5? i'm assuming the pcb, and i can't find a good spot based on any pinouts. can someone point me to a good test point for this? like said earlier, it registered 4.53 on the power supply, but would the game run on this?

secondly, the 2 pots on the power supply don't seem to adjust anything. at least as testing the +5 at the power supply and the +12 at the audio board. does this mean there's a problem there (which i'm suspecting anyways) or am i simply not measuring the proper voltages?

finally 2 last questions...

1. if the audio board voltage is indeed high at 15v, will this fuck anything up, or should it work properly once i get this issue fixed.

2. instead of rebuilding the p/s, i've been thinking of throwing in an arcadeshop switcher. has anyone used their mcr switcher, and does it work well. i'm not sure that's the right one as it doesn't say it would work for satan's hollow but it does say for tron making me think it should be ok.

forgot, but, because, quite frankly, i have no money, can i simply unplug the audio board and continue to play the game, and would that work, till i can afford a p/s or kit? will the game still play ok if it's only getting 4.53v, or would that cause damage?
