Ok so my SH has a few problems and I wanted some feedback

1st... I notice that the sound for shooting doesnt always happen - its more like for every 15 shots you hear it once... not sure why.
I put the game in test mode and did a sound check = only about half the sounds came up.
Then did a channel test and one two and three were silent - only 4 5 and 6 produced a tone. First thing I thought of was the dual sound amp??? Any other thoughts???

2nd - there seems to be a distinct right to left hum bar going through the screen - checked another monitor - same deal. Voltages are good - a hair low at the board - but still good.

Feedback would be appreciated.

have you tried running the led diagnostic board test? on sw3, the dip switch toward the front of the cab (looking at it from the back), put switches #1 and 2 on, then turn the game on. if the led on the sound board lights up solid, everything's good. if it blinks slow or fast, it's either a ram or rom problem. does it show anything if you do the diag test in selt test mode?

do you have another mcr game (like tron, spy hunter) that you can swap amps in? that might help to locate it down.

NO I have not - but I will tomorrow...

No I dont believe so - but I will double check that tomorrow too.

Yeah I have a Spy Hunter, Spy Hunter II (although I believe that sound amp is different) Tron, EDOT, Tapper, Root Beer Tapper, Timber, and Domino Man that are all MCR games

01) Duel Sound board is a good starting point. Could also be something on the SSIO board...probably one of the AY-3-8910's or it's support logic.

02) The hum bar could be a lot of stuff....monitor, plain old interference, transformer assembly. I'd start by swapping one of your transformer assemblies from one of your good machines.

Yeah I do have an extra suitcase in my basement I could try... I will do that.
The hum bar cant be the monitor because I have tried another monitor and it was just fine.

check yr fuses in the suitcase. i cleaned mine with steel wool and it made it go away. but, i've found that even with good fuse blocks, in my house if all my games are turned on at the same time, i get slight hum bars and other weirdness. i figure it's just a sign i need to upgrade my power.

and definitely try swapping the amps out. the two mb3730's (amp chips with the big heatsinks) are the ones that control the specific channels. you could have an issue there.

Turns out my suitcase is from a bump n jump = wrong one

Ok here is an update - I did swap out the dual sound amp - and I thought it fixed the problem - well for 30 seconds that is... then I decided I needed to try the old one - one more time - and that seemed to work too - then - the sound started cutting out - and next thing you know - both dual sound amps kept cutting out - check and cleaned connections - checked connections at the board - still the problem remained...
Its random - sound works - sound doesnt work.
I honestly dont know what to do...

Oh one more thing - I could not get the game to go into test mode - hit the switch - nothing happened - turned the switch to test mode - and restarted the game - and same thing - it acted as though the game was in regular play mode - I could not get it to go into test mode

In regards to the sound issue- since you have other MCR games, I would try swapping some of the stuff around. Start with AMP PCB's. If the problem remains, you might want to try swapping the SSIO PCB from one of your other MCR games. (just swap the ROM's) As someone else suggested, the AY3-8910's could be the culprit. I would also try swapping the linear power supplies around- I had a power supply causing a hiss/ hum in my Spy Hunter. Also check those ribbon connectors between the SSIO PCB and the CPU PCB. (Two ribbons)

Sounds good - now that I repainted this thing - I want to get it working properly... want to bring that extra suitcase too? I am gonna get this baby working one way or another...
Also - I have the transformers coming for my WOW - so that thing can be finished soon too.
Finished all 15 of my coin doors that I refinished... UGHHH not a fun project - but my games are back together and they are looking sweet!

with your test mode thing, it should go in automatically after the attract mode sequence is over, per the manual. but, just hit the slam switch on the coin door with the test switch on and it should go right into test mode.

thanks clev

Don1400 helped me fix the sound issue - which seems to be fixed
we took the board out and he reseated the chips - which seemed to fix the problem.

As for the hum bar effect - we tried a new suitcase - didnt fix it
Tried a different monitor - still there

We are trying to isolate the problem - a few more things to try... Will keep posting
