I picked up a non-working Satan's Hollow a couple of weeks ago. The guy who sold it to me said that the game worked recently, but the graphics started to disappear over the course of a few weeks, then the sound took a dump a few weeks later. Eventually it got to the point to when he would turn the game on, the monitor would fire up, but the screen was just white. He was pretty sure it needed a new set of boards. I figured the same thing.

Fast forward to today. I just installed a different set of boards, but I'm getting the exact same issue: the monitor comes on (along with the marquee and control panel light), but no picture. No sound.

I'm really not savvy when it comes to this kind of stuff, but I'm trying to learn. Any ideas on what the issue might be and how to go about fixing it?

My goal was to have this beast working today. I thought for sure it was gonna fire right up when I replaced the boards. I had this shit eating grin on my face and everything. Doh!

Fuses, perhaps?

Thanks guys.

Sounds like the power supply has taken a crap on you. Test the power supply for proper voltages. (power supply not the power brick)

Just to make sure I'm on the same page (like I said, I'm new to this), we're talking about this guy (the PS board), right?

Cool, thanks. Next dumb question: where do I check the output voltage, and what should it read?

Thanks in advance.

i'm happy to chime in for ya. well versed in the satan's hollow voltage checking...

check page 17 and 18 of this pdf. it'll tell ya extactly what to do.

if you show no voltage, make sure the fuses in the fuse block are good. see if anything looks like it smoked on the p/s board. at that point, yr best bet, most likely, is to either rebuild the p/s board or replace it with a switcher.

if you still have trouble and are getting voltages at the p/s board, check the board voltage. if you check one of the roms on the ss/io board (first outer board in the board stack), the bottom left pin on the rom is ground and the top right is +5 with the notch facing up on the rom. you wanna have it at 5.0 there, and you may have to crank yr +5 to get it, as i have a .3v drop between my p/s and boardset, which is somewhat normal for these fames.

All the fuses are fresh (just replaced them today). The voltages failed virtually everywhere, so I think the PS is the culprit. There is some burn at the top of the board (you can see it in the top-center of the pic), so it's probably toast.

Guess I should have checked that first before buying a new set of boards. Oh well. Now I've got a spare set.

I've already found a fellow KLOVer with an extra power supply, so I'll buy his and hopefully have this bastard up and running come this time next week.

Thanks again for your help, guys.

Weird. I took out my working power supply for Tron and put it in Satan's Hollow. Same issue. White screen. Dammit. I'll check the brick later today. If turns out to be OK, what's the next step?

Also, I let the machine sit for several minutes to see if it just needs to "warm up" (my Tron is kinda like that). I noticed that I'm getting a bit of sound out of the speakers. Not game music. Just sporadic little pop sounds.

So far I've changed the boards, changed the fuses in the brick and power supply board, and changed our the power supply board. No dice.

with the other p/s did you get any voltages, or the same no voltages? i'd try swapping the brick at that point and see if that changes at all. also, if you flip it upside down, make sure anything under there isn't burned or not connected. and, fuse wise, did you check all the fuses, including the capped screw in ones on the brick too?

Same voltages. The machine is acting exactly the same with the other power supply. The brick on Tron looks completely different from the one in my SH, so should I leave it alone?

I just checked all the fuses, and if you're looking left to right from the back of the machine, I got about 8 ohms on the first two fuses and 0 on the last 3. Might the 8 ohms on the first two be my issue?

I can't thank you enough for all the help you've given me so far. I've got a ways to go, but I feel like I'm starting to learn some things.

I just replaced those two fuses and tested the new ones before turning the machine on. Both passed. When I flipped the game on, it made a sound I haven't heard yet (loud crackling- like it was coming to life), then the picture got wavy but still white, and then the first fuse blew again.

I then put in another fresh fuse, unhooked everything running from the brick to the power supply board, fired the machine back up, and it did NOT blow this time... but the machine still behaved virtually identically: blank white screen (but didn't make the crackling sound)

So I assume something between the brick and the board keeps blowing that first fuse (the 2nd fuse didn't blow). Any idea what may be causing that and how to go about fixing it? Is this likely the issue that's keeping the game from booting?

Thanks,
David

Bad diode on the power supply.

Put new fuses in the power brick and use the Tron power supply to see if the fuses still blow.
