I picked up this Sanyo in a trade and it has a some odd modifications, I wonder if anyone can shed some light on whats going on here ?

First, it has this clip with a wire and a 10uf 250v Cap running from TR402 to ground on the chassis. Second it has a jumper from C161- to TR401.

I pulled the chassis because I was going to cap it, I ran this for while and it has very low B+ readings 88v and wavy screen, it also will roll left to right or right to left once in a while, I suspected a bad pot on the remote adjustment board and replaced them but it still has the roll, it seems to roll a few times a minute.

I'm wondering what to do on the modifications and why they are there. Suggestions ?

I don't know what that top mod is, but the wire on the bottom I've seen before on a couple chassis I have. Not sure what it does but the monitor works fine. - Barry

I just noticed the alligator clip in there. Is it hooked up to anything?? That's one messed up repair job. - Barry

I'm curious about the 2nd mod with the wire underneath connected to C161. I had a chassis with that same mod. IIRC, both pins are connected to gnd.

Seems a little odd that multiple people are reporting the same mod.

The clip is on the screw that holds TR402 to the heat sink.

What does 402 do ?

Look for a C407 coming off that transistor.
Appears someone may have tried to replace that cap without removing the chassis.

Can't quite make out the location designations on the little black wire to trace it around.
Probably a known basic mod for bad trace or lack thereof. Kinda looks like it comes off a transistor to a cap.

If you are talking about the 2nd pic. It's the GND Pin of C161 to TR401. I had the same thing. Trace wasn't damaged. Pinned out fine. Took it off and it ran fine. Not sure about the OP, but mine was a 20EZAW.

Wonder if there was a known current draw issue on one of those ground traces at some point in time.
(so the jumper wire just beefs it up)
