I am having probs with my monitor. I am new to this site as I am new to arcade repair... it will take me a while to get used to how it works. My lower monitor is fine, my upper monitor is VERY dim but I can tell it is on and "working", I cant really tell what else is wrong but it appears to be distorted around the sides... it is stable though and all the colors are there. Any help would be appreciated. I saw the flow chart and will try making some adjustments in the meantime. I would be interested in purchasing one of these monitors as well to have an extra one. Thanks

Well, the first thing you should do is cap the monitor. This is essentially giving your monitor a tune-up and creates a good base to work from. There are a few sources online where you can buy the necessary components in kit form or yo ucan order each component individually. Replacing of these parts will require soldering.

A spare monitor can be found but is usually not necessary since there is a wealth of fata online to assist you in maintaining the parts you have.

Thanks, I was going to give that a try (cap Kit) just to learn to do it... I can solder fine just haven't had the opportunity to recap a monitor yet... I guess this is a good chance... now that its getting a bit easier to see the monitor it has a black outline all around the screen, about an inch on all four sides and 'sometimes folds from the top... it also is not focused well. It seems to be pulsing with the audio as well...

Well, the folding is a sign of failing caps, as is the bowed in sides you mentioned in your first post. The pulsing with the audio could be caps as well since the audio is derrived on the monitor's chassis, though I don't know if the upper or lower chassis is used on a Punch-out!! machine. The focus could be a sign onf a failing flyback. Chad at The ArcadeCup carries replacement flybacks. However, your fly may be fine so I'd start with the caps first and go from there.

Who is the best to get a cap kit for this monitor from? There is audio on both chassis, punches, crowd etc on lower monitor... commentary etc. on upper... I wouldn't say the sides are "bowed", just sort of cut off... seems like I should be able to fix with horiz. and vert. size but I see no adjustments for them (I can tell the picture is indeed cut though by the fighters names etc.) I'm looking forward to this cap kit job. :)

I normally get my cap kits from Bob Roberts. http://www.therealbobroberts.net/

He is very knowledgeable, responds/ships quickly and shows an amazing level of trust with cross shipping. In order to order to from him you send him an email with a list of the stuff you want, he replies with a total including shipping, and then you send him a check.

When you order from Bob the 20 ez cap kits and get the sanyo audio rebuild kits with it.

20EZ 13"/19" - Deluxe Kit [Plus & Audio Bd Kit] $12.00

When it comes time to work on the monitors its much easier to pull complete monitor out of game and take it apart on workbench.
