I am considering a swap out from a Wells-Gardner with chassis for a lees than a year old Sanyo with chassis from a Donkey Kong cabinet. I have read that the Sanyo monitors run on 100v, not the standard 120v. What precautions do I need to take while making this swap? I do believe that I need to step down the voltage to 100v, but how exactly do I accomplish this? Is there anything else I should know before considering this swap?

Hate to break it to you, but if you've got a Sanyo monitor in a Donkey Kong, that monitor is a whole heck of a lot more than "less than a year old". Try 30.

Yes. The Sanyo 20EZ runs on 100v, not 120v. The isolation transformer used in Donkey Kong is already wired to step down 120v line voltage to something suitable for the Sanyo. Failing that, it's usually possible to restrap some other transformers to output 100v. That's the least of your worries though.

Well, you should know that the Sanyo monitors take inverted video signals, so when you hook it up to a non-Nintendo game board, all the colors will be inverted (like looking at a negative of a color photograph). You'll need to build/acquire a video inverter to make it work.

You would be better off just leaving the Wells Gardner in Arkanoid, and leaving the Sanyo in Donkey Kong.

Let me rephrase that. It is less than a year old as it was purchased and placed in the DK cabinet to be used for a MAME project. The builder had an issue with the monitor and video card in the computer, so he just parted out the machine and is going to use something compatible with the card. There is zero burn in. So, knowing this, do you think it is worth the swap?

Yeah, you guys are right. I looked it over and it is definetley not new. Thanks, you saved me some headaches! Ok then, where is a good place to start for a new, or newer, 19" WG monitor and chassis? The one I presently have has some serious burn in.

The reason he couldn't get the monitor to work with his video card is probably the same reason I was referencing above - the Sano 20EZ takes inverted video.

You should have no problems finding a monitor with light or no burn - they're out there. You didn't fill in your location field, so we don't know where you are, but I'm sure that there is a KLOVer nearby that would gladly trade you a compatible monitor for your Sanyo.

Also, don't throw out your heavily burned WG - there are lots of us out there that fix those. All it needs to be burn-free is a new picture tube.

Don't worry about finding a "new" monitor - they don't make arcade monitors anymore, and the ones that were made in recent years are pretty terrible. Just look for one that's good, clean and working. Any standard monitor will work in your game - you just happened to find the one (Sanyo) that is different.

I am located in MA/RI. I think I am going to go with a cap kit. The burn in is tolerable, it really isn't that bad now that I look at it closer. I would like to get that fixed. If any one can steer me in the right direction for a tube, let me know.
