Hi,

I recently picked up my first cabinet, a Donkey Kong and I have been doing a lot of work to restore it back to its original beauty. The only thing left to work out is some monitor issues. Everything I read on here seems to lead me back to doing a cap kit and I'm down for that, but I just wanted to show some images of what it looks like and make sure that I'm not missing anything while I have it out of the cabinet.

From what I can see there is fades color in the lower third of the monitor and there seems to be discoloration up the middle.

Thanks,
Eric

I don't own a degausser, so I tried a method I found on the internet with a magnet and power drill. That definitely helped the color a bunch, not perfect, but I suspect that is the result of my ghetto degausser.

I am still seeing the darker bottom third of the monitor though, thoughts? Is it time for a cap kit?

With the benefits you saw with a makeshift degausser and looking at the pics, I would say no.

However, in the same breath, the caps are 30 years old! :)

Thanks for the advice guys. I will be ordering a cap kit for the monitor and soundboard tomorrow. I wasn't familiar with foldover until I searched for it on the forums here. That sounds pretty much inline with the problems I have been seeing. Any recommendations on who to order the caps from?

So I got the monitor recapped this weekend and when I pulled everything out of the cab and got it ready for paint I found a Monitor part that looks like it has fallen off years ago. I am wonder if this being detached from the monitor may have caused some of my issues because it is is a shield? Either way I would like to reattach it, but while it looks like it might just snap in, it also seems to be glued and that glue has lost its adhesion over time. Any ideas guys?

Anyone? I'm mainly asking that since the clips for the plate are broken is there a good way to reattach? Apply new glue, if so what kind or does the kind even matter? Electrical tape? Leave it off, it's not important?
