I picked up an Assault using a sanyo 20ez monitor with the inverter board etc. The image was bending down pretty harsh on the left side. I had that problem in several nintendo cabinets, and a cap kit always did the trick. I capped the Assault today, but when I turned it on the problem was still there. What else should I try to fix this?

it could be a sync issue in the harness or a H-position/H-Sync adjustment.

but that is a typical cap failure.

did you replace all of the caps or is there still a few original caps on the chassis not including the filter cap.

who knows the new caps could be bad but lets not focus on that ATM.

also try the monitor with another signal going to it if you can.

check your work and all the caps for proper orientation and rating.
look for a solder bridge or broken trace.

Ahh, this is why this hobby is so rewarding.

Took the monitor back out, replaced the cap on the inverter board, replaced all the caps on the audio board, checked for broken traces, repaired one solder bridge. Put everything back together, turned on the machine and now I'm not getting a picture at all, or even any game sounds.

alright, fixed that problem, I think maybe it was going into HV shutoff.

so it's back, but the bend on the left side is still there. No adjustment of any knobs helps. I've capped many sanyos so I don't believe I made a mistake there. I couldn't find my bob roberts cap list sheet so I used this one I found online: http://www.opdenkelder.com/pics/deluxepartlist.jpg maybe there is a mistake on there but I didn't see any.

yup that list is wrong on so many caps i stooped counting after i found 4+ errors in the first 5 lines or so.

here is the cap list i made of a virgin chassis that has had no work done to it from when it was made.

SANYO

202, 161---------------220UF 16V
454, 453, 302, 166-----1UF 50V
469 ------------------220UF 25V
162, 411 ------------4.7UF 25V BP
201 ------------------10UF 25
459 ------------------100UF 16V
468 ------------------330UF 25V
464 ------------------22UF 50V
472, 410 ------------100UF 160V
458 ------------------47UF 10V
406, 467, 408, 610------1UF 160V
301, 303----------------10UF 50V
407, 471----------------10UF 160V
609 ------------------470UF 10V
606 FILTER CAP -------470UF 160V

377---------22UF 160V
372, 374----4.7UF 160V
375---------10UF 50V
378---------10UF 160V
371---------4.7UF 25V NP
373---------100UF 25V

i would compare mine to your chassis and replace what is wrong.

this is the same list i work from, on any Sanyo i repair or sell kits from and have had no issues with it.

Ok thanks...the only one I see that is definitely wrong when comparing the two lists is 406. I'll see what happens...

Alright, I fixed that problem. With the correct cap in, the H sync adjustment knob actually worked and I was able to straighten out the curve.

Now the only problem is that I can't get the whole picture to fill the screen properly. The knob that controls the screen moving left and right does not move the screen left (or right) enough to fill the left side without cutting off the right side (ie if I adjust the vertical to be wide enough to fill the screen, the right side will have moved off the screen too far). I tried adjusting the horizontal width coil but can't get anything to happen.

when i fix Sanyo's on the bench i have the same problem with MK or any JAMMA game.

there is nothing wrong with the monitor.
you can put it in a Nintendo game and adjust everything just fine.

here are examples of the same problem with repairs i have done.
it is adjusted the same way as yours.
i even played with all the jumper settings and the width coil.

huh, so sounds like after all that I should remove the sanyo and keep it as a back-up for one of my nintendo cabinets, and throw a regular monitor into the Assault

Bumping this old thread...buffet where did you get the value of c406? The manual and others lists have it as a 10uf 50v....I have the same droop in my assault on my recently capped 20ez..

i got it from a factory Sanyo when i did a cap kit and compiled my list.

i have used both values in that location with no issues.

check your H-Hold on the chassis to see if it is just out of adjustment.
