Hi, I am new to this stuff. I have a Nintendo vs. machine and the top of the screen went black, so I ordered a cap kit. Great idea right? Well maybe not, since after I put in the cap kit I get nothing. The game still plays, I can hear the Mario music and everything, but there is no picture. The flyback transformer did have a big crack in it, and it made a noticeable buzzing sound, so I ordered one of those and put it on too. I was reading on here about the B+ voltage and checking tp 91. I guess it is supposed to be 108 vdc, but mine says 136. Please help! This video game is on site at my friends music/game/collectibles store. Kids used to play it all the time, but now we have to dissapoint them with a dead Super Mario. Any help would be awesome-thanks

Yes, it hardly changed much. I think it was a couple of volts up or down, and that was all it would do.

Okay, I'll look for that. Any idea what Q901 is? Thanks for the help by the way.

Q901 is the Reg, and it is located on the big heat sink on the left of the chassis when looking at it from the rear.

Okay, I see it on the heat sink. How do you go about testing that?

With the power off.
Set your meter to diode function.
Red lead to center of Q901
Black lead to the monitor frame.

Good reading is roughly 1200 to 2000

Well, when I do that it flashes a bunch of different numbers. Most of them are in that range. I guess that means it's okay? What would make a regulator stop working? I'm just confused with this monitor. At least I had a picture before I put on the cap kit, now it doesn't do anything. I'm sure I put all the caps in the right places with the correct polarity, because I took my time when I did it. There were never any sparks or fires or smoke when I first hooked it up. I don't understand why putting on a cap kit is resulting in no picture or neck glow or any signs of monitor life.

VR601 might be bad. I've replaced mine on both Sanyo cap kits I've done since I already had the sucker out and on the bench..

You should replace the VR601 when a cap kit is installed.
I would order one from Bob Roberts and replace it.
