Do any of you guys know your caps well enough to know if this is an original C606?

The I did the chasis that is on my monitor now, but I bought a spare to be sure I had a monitor incase I screwed mine up because it was my first cap kit. It said that it was rebuilt and burn tested and looks super clean compaired to the one that I repaired so I was wondering if the person I bought mine from replaced caps that arent in Bob Roberts kits that I used. heres a shot of it

Thanks as always for your help.

On most of the caps on the Sanyo there is a date code on them and most of the originals were Sanyo brand caps. I don't recall seeing a date code on the filter caps for whatever reason. But If it has three legs instead of two it's probably likely that it's original. The filter caps almost never get changed during a standard recap. Look for a date code on it. it should be a four digit number. It might look something like 8109 or 0981 (can't remember haw Sanyo did it) which would mean it was made the 9th week of 1981.

Edit: The four digit code given was just an example.
And now that I think about it I believe it should state year first then week of manufacture like 81 09

Thanks for the help Greg. I just checked the cap and the only number I see is one stamped on the top and it is 2607 and it looks like it only has 2 legs. would that mean it was made in 07? I don't think it was made in 1926 ; )

Safe to say its a new cap?

Thanks again.

It could be from 07 but I would feel more comfortable with that if the code was 0726. But yeah it's probably not an original, That doesn't mean it couldn't be bad. If your not seeing the symptoms then I wouldn't even worry about it.

I just removed mine today, and it was a 3-legger. But mine was a Rubycon and it doesn't look as old as a lot of the other Sanyo branded caps in there- so it's probably not original. But yeah, the cap in the picture is not what I had in mine, for what it's worth.

Well, I'm not sure which cap in that pic is C606, but if you're referring to the big 470uF 160v cap, that's the filter cap. Filter caps almost never fail, and are never replaced during a normal cap kit rebuild....

Every Sanyo I ever worked on had a Rubycon brand filter cap.

Thanks for all the help guys.

I'm not seeing any problems with the one pictured, because I have yet to use it. I bought it incase I messed mine up when I capped it, but it seems to be holding up so far. I just have the pulsing/ section of the screen shift sometimes and several posts on the forums suggests C606 as the reason why it happens. One of the posts belongs to mhanlen1 with a video with what happens.

If I ever sell the chasis you'll be the first I contact Greg, I would like to hold on to it though because I want to try and keep this Donkey Kong running for as long as possible, hopefully my lifetime.

So, mhanlen1, any luck with the cap replacement of fixing your screen jump?

Cool, no problem man, I totally understand, I'm the same way. :)

Ok, so maybe mine is original. All the rest of the caps appeared to be original as most were Sanyo's, and the monitor shows no signs of any other new parts or servicing.

Thanks for all the help guys.

I got it finished and all my mess cleaned up late last night. The floor in our computer room is my workbench. I tweaked the monitor, played a few games and went to bed. So today I'm going to let it run all day, and see if I notice anything. I'll keep you updated and create a thread at some point today or tomorrow. I will say that so far, I still notice a video issue. Anyway I'll detail it later.
