I have a friend that has a donkey kong. it has a yellowing to the monitor with some lines, which makes it hard to see. it has been capped. i took a few quick shots with my phone(not sure if that helps). Ive looked the machine over and just dont see anything that i can think of. any help?

a pic of the front of the monitor with the issue would bee nice. it is really hard to see from the rear.

that way we can see the problem.

other wise it looks good to me.

after you cap these you have to COMPLETELY readjust all the color pots and brightness pots. you also have to reflow the solder on the transistors on the neckboard.

I'm guessing when you put fresh caps in it stresses things a little more and if the solder joints aren't good they lose contact.

you will probably have to turn the Screen pot on the flyback down first, then work the Brightness pot to where you can turn it up and see dots in a black background, and turn that down enough until the dots completely fade to pure black. make sure the Screen is high enough that you can just see the dots in black though.

then turn the color adjustments all the way down, you should see nothing on the screen I don't think, or maybe one of the base colors will still stay. then turn one up, then the next, then the other, until white is white. not purple. not yellow. not blue. white. don't turn them up too high, or you will see the diagonal retrace lines. you don't want these to be turned up real high, but you also don't want them too low either (you will have poor saturation).

do all these things and it should look mint!

ok ill try that and ill get a pic of the monitor with the issue.

this picture is one i found online it is very similar to what is going on. you can see the game play and play it but with this overlayed on top, and it is more yellow.

im fixing this for a friend that lives 40 minutes away. so i want to find out as much as a i can before i drive all the way out there. im getting a working ms pac if i can fix this and one other game he has.

if that's your issue. you will need to degauss it first then center all the pots on the neck board. turn down the screen control on the fly till it turns black and adjust the sub black level pot and the regular brightness control. set the regular brightness control it to its center so you have some adjustablility on it.

all that's of coarse after a full cap out and adjusted B+ to 108vdc.

then it should look fantastic.

If this is your problem, turn down the fly after verifying that you have the video input hooked up correctly.
