Guys,

I just recapped an EZ-20. When done (and before), picture is perfect EXCEPT there are white lines through everything. Not sure what to call them, but they are the slightly diagonal lines you get when you turn the brightness up too far. The thing is, they are there no matter how low you adjust the brightness or screen control.

I don't know if I've described it adequately. You know, if you have a normally operating monitor adjusted perfectly, and then you turn the screen control up too high, you get these white-ish slightly diagonal lines running through the picture. You turn it down and the lines go away and the picture is perfect. Well with this monitor, you turn it down, and the lines stay there. Until you turn the monitor brightness down until everything is gone. But if anything is showing on the screen, these lines are there.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
John

Did you remember to check your B+ after recapping? Fire it up and let it run for at least 20 minutes first. Then make sure B+ is adjusted to 108V.

Found this in another post, from security0001:

"Sanyo 20 EZ – 108vdc check with meter black lead to ground and red lead on +BC lug on right rear of board (standing behind looking at board)."

yes this is correct and the B+ has to be set 100% of the time after capping a monitor, but you have to also adjust the sub-brightness on a sanyo. did you adjust the sub-brightness pot on the main pcb??

Thanks for the responses guys!

1) Yes, I checked the B+. It is 107.8 VDC.

2) Yes, I adjusted the sub-bright. I have tried adjusting all the different things that affect brightness - the screen control on the flyback, the sub-bright on the center of the chassis, the brightness control on the little remote, and even the color controls on the neck board. All seem to work - raise and lower brightness - but the white lines follow with all of them.

Any other ideas?

Thanks again!
John

I'm not an expert, so only a couple of ideas left from me. When you capped the chassis did you look closely for any cold solder joints? Maybe reflow them all carefully.

Since it's persistent across all brightness levels maybe there is a bad ground or a bad filter cap somewhere?

I've attached Dokert's troubleshooting flowchart for the 20EZV for people's general reference here, but it doesn't look like it will help with your specific problem.

Nintendo made a Sanyo 20EZ Troubleshooting Guide that may be of help. Had to link it; too big to attach here.
