Todays dumb question is about that little board that mounts above the flyback that the RBG sync plugs into before jumping to the main board. What is this board, and what is its purpose, can the monitor be used without it, if so on what games, and finally, where can I scrounge a couple of these.
Thanks
Randy

That board is an inverter board. It "inverts" the video colors. It is only need if you're using the monitor with a gameboard that needs the video inverted (basically, a non-Nintendo game). If it's being used with a Nintendo game (a la Donkey Kong, Popeye, etc.)....you can remove it.

That sounds great, considering I have 2 without it, and I need one in my supermario. Ive put off putting it in so I could find out about this

If your Sanyo is missing the components by the video input, then it's setup for the classic Nintendo games without an inverter as ELutz mentioned.
(see chassis pic)
Some Nintendo games like DK, Popeye, etc may have had them on the chassis, but in all reality they were just bypassing it.
So for those games you may or may not see one mounted on the flyback.

You will also need at least 12v to power that inverter board in order for it to work with other games. (including Mario Bros)
Normally it would have been power by the location listed as AB on the schematics.
(couple pics added to show it's location)
Sometimes you'll see an inverter mounted there, but there won't even be power going to it.
