Hi there!!

I just bought an empty Donkey Kong cab that came with a Sanyo 20ez. Since I didn't have a DK board, I decided to take the chassis out and do the inverter conversion. That went well, but after I hooked it up I noticed that I couldn't adjust the width at all. The h center pot does nothing as well as the width coil. I checked the B+ and it's running at a stable 108vdc. I've atached a picture so you can see what my problem is.

Please help.

Thanks!

try another game.

KI is designed more for a 25/27" 4x3 monitor.

try a pac or other game designed to run on a 19" monitor.

if you still cannot adjust the width, you may have to change the width cap.

also not sure why you would manually invert a Sanyo when the inverter boards are out there.

i have 4-5 Sanyo's in my NON Nintendo games and i just use the inverter board that came with them, or found one if i needed one.

I manually inverted it because I was being cheep and had no other way to test the monitor. I don't have but two boards I can test. The Street Fighter which btw works fine with a ducksan 13" I have, and a police trainer. Which I believe is also supposed to be hooked up to a 25" monitor as well.

I'll try the cap and see what happens.

Thanks

yes both of those boards and the 13" are/around a 4x3 image so that is not a good test.

your probably will have the same problem with the other boards.

SF2 and police trainer were designed for a 25" monitor.

all of the SF2 that i have seen converted in a 19" monitor cab all had the same issue you are experiencing, black bars on the sides.

nothing was wrong with the monitor when a different game that was designed with a 19" monitor was used the monitor worked great.

i have found that changing the cap to widen the image for games that use a 4x3 monitor does nothing but stretch them and it looks terrible.

But could you adjust them so that they had black bars on both sides? Cause I can't get the picture to move at all to the right (horizontally).

if it's normal then I'm cool with that. I just want a good working monitor and I noticed that the width coil does nothing, nor does the h center pot.

yes you will have black lines using those games.

you can use the H-Hold pot on the chassis to move the image as well.

if your H-Center pot does not work then you have other issues you need to fix in that circuit. check that the pot is not cracked.

i have never seen that adjustment not work on the Sanyo.

The horizontal hold immediately goes out of sync when I try to move it. I'm guessing that I have some pot work to do and need another board to try. My B+ is very touchy and my sub-brightness is as well. It's time for a little restoration.

Thanks for all your help. I'll let you know what I find.

Thanks again.

if you haven't done a cap kit on that old chassis then you should start with that and go on from there. i stock the complete best quality cap kits for that and the audio amp all 100% nichicon 105c.

ok. I did a cap kit and changed all the pots. I also purchased a 60 in 1. Is that board a bad example as well, because I'm having the same issue? I cannot adjust the width at all. It's till cut off at the top (right side). Really want to fix this problem. Please help.

Thanks!!

I know this is old, however I forgot to post my resolution.

I replaced the width cap and that fixed all my issues. Of course the width was still cut off on both sides due to the board I was testing, however I could now center the picture properly and the width coil was responsive.

Thanks!!

the 60-1 does not play well with CRT's.
it is best on a LCD or other.

Unless you have a Betson Imperial 19" CRT. Then it works perfectly.

The 60-in-1 doesn't seem to like older, golden era CRTs. Mine absolutely hated the G07, which had a nasty curl with it no matter what I did. I swapped a new Betson into the cab and it came up perfectly and still looks fantastic with either a 60-in-1 or a 412-in-1.

Has anyone tried a video amp with a 60-in-1 on a CRT, like a G07? I'll have to try it one of these days. I wonder if that would clear up a lot of these issues. I use a 60-in-1 at times on my test bench and sometimes it will sync fine with a G07 and other times it will refuse.

I had it working great on my g07 and my 20ez. However, I did have an issue getting it to sync with my g07. I tried forever to get it to work. I did some research and found that people were under the impression that the g07 used positive sync. So naturally I built a circuit to convert the negative sync to positive. This made it worse. I could get it to sync with a slow flip. So I took the circuit out and took a break. After my break I accidentally got it to sync. I realized that the sync was just very touchy. Negative sync works just fine!! Once I got it to sync I never had a problem getting it to sync again. So...old shit and shit boards just need persistence!!

lol

When you changed your width cap, did you replace with the same value or mess with it to get it to stretch.

I have the same issue with one of my 20ez and it's drivjng me....bananas.

Thanks.
