I have a 81 plywood donkey kong that worked but the monitor didn't display red. I ordered a cap kit from bobroberts and installed it wednesday (Friday now). I also simple greened the monitor and cleaned it up. When i went to plug it up today I heard some poping coming from the chassis board. Then I saw smoke at the transformer under c467 (little yellow one). Once i unplugged it and and inspected it my new cap at c467 is dome topped.Any advice on how i should proceed. By the way c467 is a 1uf 160v and it is oriented on the board the proper direction on the board layout.

are you sure you let it dry long enough?? was the cap installed properly or backwards? since BR has been closed almost a year that is an old cap kit.

did you blow any fuses? measure B+, etc.??

also did any joints break etc, the red was either a broken color amp transistor or cracked solder joint

I did get the cap kit maybe a year-and-a-half ago I wouldn't imagine that would make it too old. It is possible it did not dry long enough but it looked very dry. I will stick an old cap in it today I'll also Reflow all the joints on the neck board if it is a transistor on the color side where would you Source them thank you

Also i didnt measure the b+ it was fine before the recap I unplug the monitor as soon as I heard it start popping the capacitor was also oriented properly

I measured b+ @105.5 a little low but within the realm. As you can see the cap definitely blowed. There is a red wire that is not connected to anything is that supposed to be. Would love the experts to come to my Aid I'm kind of a noob.

Also resistor are R471 has the ceramic burned off of it it measures 88k not 10k now

There two main possibilities I think. The cap was shorted right out of the bag and killed your resistor or your resistor shorted and killed the cap. Get a few sets of each to test and see if they blow again.

Ok I am gonna order resistors and caps... probably gonna order premium caps once this fiasco is over. I will also order all 3 color transistors ... Those are the 3 on the neckboard I suppose.

Looking toward the future what are people doing to get a burn free tube for the 20ez...

Thanks mattspad and everyone else who are taking this arcade noob under there wing. once the 20ez is wrapped up I got a ktm-f26 in a sf2 championship i am gonna address. its got a fully modular raspberry pi in it so i can convert it back with out modifying anything

sanyos have a unique tube I think so it'll be hard to get a burn free tube basically only form another trashed monitor or something. A way to lessen the appearance of the burn is adding extra tint

I replaced the cap with the old cap and the resistor with a atari 2600 resistor(same value) now when I plug it in i here the audio boot sound. the monitor doesnt come on and the b+ reads 131v. That must be HV Shutdown. No neck glow because HV shutdown. B+ pot doesnt change b+. what my next step

BTW i am ordering new parts tonight. I dont do half@ss work typically this was to see what was happening

after getting no change and fiddling around with suggestions ive seen on the internet. I decided to swap the other used cap in(again proper specs and orientation) the resistor i replaced earlier started to smoke then the cap exploded was kinda unsettling. I am going to order a bunch of new parts and give this a go again. any idea what could cause this I am stumped

also while the smoke and before the explosion of c467 happened the monitor was on albeit it was showing weird images

Q901 check if your B+ isn't changing below your reading.

when the monitor goes in hv shutdown is that like a safety mode to keep the high b+ voltage from burning stuff up or is it a error state and the board still has high voltage running through it?

I had a monitor that lost a color once and my problem was the connector pin itself just before it got to the monitor. the wire had signal but the connector pin was a little oxidized and never got the signal to the monitor so check the trace on the monitor to see if it is getting signal input

thanks wugly ill try that once i figure out the cap and resistor hv shutdown issue

Ordered all the parts and additional parts recommended should i start a seperate RE-repair topic or continue in this topic. also order a cap kit form my SF2CE monitor (KTM-F26 Kortek).

I am getting discouraged here I got my parts in from security, super fast shipper btw everything was super nice and helpfully bagged and labeled. Anyways I replaced the
HOT
TR901
caps
color transistors
B+ pot
filter cap
neck board pots
remote board pots

I plugged it up and same thing no picture(HV shutdown) seconds later the cap c467 started smoking i cant measure b+ because it happens to fast. I didn't know where to put the b+ before firing it up so i adjusted it to the middle. I center all pots on neckboard and remote board. Whats left

Also it is worth mentioning when i first got the cabinet i plugged the monitor into the wall 120v. I will say that i got the cabinet working albeit with out red this was before the cap kit and the fiasco that followed.
