There are five pots on the neckboard of a 20EZ, I assume the R and B drive turn the "power" of the guns down or up. What do all the pots do really, in layman's terms?

PS, I did search and didn't find anything. It will probably be one simple word I didn't think to type...

All monitors have these, and in the simplest terms, they equate to contrast (cutoff) and brightness (drive).

Drive controls set the maximum amount of power going to any gun; or the overall brightness of them.

Cutoff controls set the minimum amount of power going to any gun, in simpler terms, the point at which they go 'dark' which roughly equates to setting contrast.

In rough terms you balance your drive controls along with your screen control to get the maximum level of brightness without the colors smearing or seeing retrace lines and all colors produce the same level.

Then you adjust down your cut off controls so that they turn off at the same time not leaving one color slightly glowing when the others are not on a black background.

Takes a bit of practice to balance, and a good test pattern with various gradients of color, but pretty easy compared to convergence.

Here's a good old RGAVC post about how to adjust these on any monitor. You can also look at the tips in the specific monitor manuals:

There are in the manual but they don't really mention what they do if your trying to pinpoint a problem. Your explanation is better then the manuals.
