Vertical is smashing and I'm hearing a ringing. Monitor was not great before cap kit but it's definitely having an issue now...Check this out.

Fixed. Sorry. Low B+ voltage. pot in center of chasis was set low. pot next to width coil was set low. Ringing was from Audio Board.

I take it back....not fixed. Can't adjust width beyond what is shown and the monitor breathes randomly.

Any ideas? B+ pot doesn't seem to do anything although when off, the pot adjusts up to 5K ohm.

I've heard several people on here say that's PERFECTLY NORMAL. and I would accept that, if not for the fact that my Popeye and Donkey Kong monitors do in fact span the entire width of the tube. the monitor that's in my former Vs. cab/Mario Bros. conversion has the problem yours does.

some people frown upon messing with the width coil. so if someone else has another idea, I'd like to know what that may be. lol

What voltage is the B+ stuck at? Could be a bad regulator if you can't adjust the B+.

The breathing could be low B+ or a faulty filter cap. Did you change the filter?

Filter is the c606? I haven't changed it yet. I've just ordered it from Bob Roberts. B+ is 95volts...should be 108?

Yeah, B+ needs to be 108. That explains the shrunken picture and the breathing. You can try changing the 2SD1090, but if that doesn't work, then you probably need the regulator IC (IC601).

-Ian

Okay. I've ordered the following:

470uf 200v Filter Cap (c606)
2SA-940 & 2SC2073 Transistors (TR402 / TR403)
LA5112N Voltage Regulator
B+ Potentiometer
2SD1090 Current Limiter
and Midway Pacman Centering Grommets....

I'm going to try everything one at a time to determine what is the main cause of the problem....if all else fails, I'm going to have to use the Centering Grommets.

I'll report back.

If it's as high as 95, he might be able to adjust it up. Try that first, before slapping in a new D1090.

The B+ pot doesn't seem to adjust anything when the machine is on. Voltage regulator or limiter?

if you cant adjust it then most likely your problem is on/and or two things.

LA5112N Voltage Regulator.
and
2SD1090 Current Limiter.

change the LA5112N Voltage Regulator first and the filter cap and test the chassis before you change the 2SD1090 Current Limiter.

i would not change anything else before you try changing the 2 parts stated above.

they both control the B+ regulation.

Really? I'd personally do it the other way around. The 2SD1090 is cheaper than the LA5112N, and there has been a real problem getting *good* LA5112N's lately. Either part can cause this problem, and it's not like one faulty part is going to burn out the other.

But, then again, it's still 50/50. I've seen a bad 2SD1090 cause this, and I've ALSO seen a bad LA5112N cause this. So... flip a coin :)

its a 2-1 for me on the LA5112 i change more of them on theses chassis than i do the 2SD1090.

i guess i am getting the odd ball broke chassis that need fixing.
and they're not that expensive if you don't get them from bob:)

he will let us know what the problem was. and if you are rite ill buy you lunch if your ever in the area and you can do the same if i am in your area if i win.
