First time here and new to repair but am excited to learn!!!!

I picked up a DK that is having monitor problems. After digging in it seems it had a cap kit put in recently so I am not sure where to go from here. I have the Monitor Chassis out cleaning up the board and seeking any damages but I cant see anything that is standing out. I tried all the common controls.

See pic to see what I am seeing. Can anyone point me in right direction?

I also checked the caps to make sure they were put in correct polarity and it seems they are.

Ian,
Yes I have it just shifted it around like it was working but not really changing it.

Yeah I tried that as I said. Maybe I can clean up the pot a bit?

You can see it in the pic I just added to show why I think its a newer cap kit

Ok I tried the H-Hold since you guys think thats a lead. It takes it from that state when all the way "backward" Towards back.. Halfway screen is black, all the way up its a thin line in the middle.

Adjustment seems "bumpy" not a smooth transition of pot.. if that makes sense.. It sticks at bottom, middle and top

Just the guy I was looking for - Hindered. Caught your old post on 100 resistor on R462 so I resoldered it , checked the others mentioned in your old posting as its almost the exact same issue except the sound issue. lol. I also removed the H Hold control and resoldered it to ensure it wasnt an issue.

Checked out some cold solder spots and refreshed them. Adjusted b+ to~107.9 and cleaned up some stuff but to no avail. I guess Ill order up a H-pot, maybe a b pot? anything else I can order to have on hand?

Still getting same results.

Also, as you can see in my pic of the board the H Pot has that white arm on it near the top by the wire loom in the middle. Is that original? When I took it out is has 2 stop points on it making a true adjustment very hard as it wants to slip back into the divots on the arm. Seems strange.

that white arm is a service switch, it's intended for adjusting convergence. I don't know the placement it should be at, but if that switch is engaged in the service position, it will generate a single horizontal line (or vertical in your case, since the monitor's mounted vertically)

check to make sure that's not the case. it might be something that silly. though judging by the picture, it seems it might be in the right spot. I can't remember, can't really tell, but that's what that does. :)

good luck sir. I've been tinkering with the EZ in my new DK too, got a bad filter cap I think, and it needs to be re-capped. might finally give Zanen a call in the morning...

oh, and welcome aboard, adventurous noob! :)

Mecha,
I was just looking at that.. Boy do I feel retarted. I was looking at diagrams I had seen 4 times before and just realized that is not h-hold..

Ill try again in the AM.

Thanks for your help.

Ian gets props for first to answer but thanks to all...

I should learn first to read a diagram I think.

can't tell if it's a bad picture or not, but looks like your black backgrounds have a reddish tint to them. the flyback on my monitor is actually completely surrounded by metal, have to use a flathead to turn the Screen knob, if yours is like mine, the rightmost knob is the Screen adjustment. try to find the happy medium between that and the Brightness adjustment to get the black background to appear completely black.

and if you see the retrace lines, the Screen is up too high.

just my additional 2 cents. glad you sorted the problem out, I love stupid solutions like those!
