I have a Mario Bros. with a Sanyo 20-EZV that shuts itself off about 30 seconds after turning the game on. If I shut the game off or unplug the monitor for a few seconds and plug it back in the monitor will work for a few more seconds and then shut off again. All the fuses are good and I can't find any loose connections. What would cause a monitor to do this? After it shuts off the screen looks like the attached pic. You can see there's something being displayed but not much. For the short period of time that the monitor does work the picture is excellent. Colors are sharp. It doesn't appear to need a cap kit. Just wondering if this is something simple or more complicated.

Most likely going into HV shutdown. You need to check the B+ on it. There's youtube videos and all sorts of relevant info on here if you use the search engine.

Maybe a new voltage regulator IC?
LA5112N
Bob Roberts has them for 9$

I checked the B+ and was getting +125V then climbing to +135V and shutting down. I adjusted the B+ pot to get the voltage down to +108V and now the monitor stays on. Thanks for the advice!!!

I have the same problem with mine...sort of. Monitor worked fine (aside from bad jailbars) prior to cap kit. Post-capkit, monitor would only power on for a few seconds before going into HV shutdown. When it was coming on, B+ was around +109. Now it won't come on at all, and B+ is at +137v.

Bad LA5112N? Or is there something else I should check first? Is there any way to test that chip?

Adjust your B+ first. Pretty common to need to do after a cap kit.

I had a bad b+ pot before. The screen would start out small and then it would get bigger as the b+ went up. Never went into shutdown, but it was annoying, and replacing the pot solved the problem.

BTW, the brightness pots (all three!) have an effect on the B+. Sometimes you have to fiddle with them to get the B+ where it needs to be.

So even while it's in shutdown, I should be able to adjust it back down to +108?
Prior to it shutting down, it was at or around +110, but then after shutdown it shot up to +137, which is consistent with alot of other people's experiences.

No. When it's in shutdown, you won't be able to adjust the B+. But, you can shut the monitor off, dial the B+ all the way down, then turn it back on, and adjust the B+ up to where it needs to be.

I had a Sanyo monitor with the same thing, shutting down pretty quickly. It turns out the B+ pot was bad. Upon replacing it is rock steady now.

Exactly. Set your brightnesss to about 50%, set your b+ pot way down, try again.
