Sanyo 20 EZ sync issues - rolling horizontally and vertically

I have a freshly capped Sanyo 20EZ that is rolling out of control horizontally and vertically. It rolled like this before capping too.

I have:

Capped It
Replaced the Filter Cap
and swapped out the IC401 chip from another chassis.
B+ checks out

After replacing the IC401 I can get it to calm down much easier but it is still rolling out of control in all directions. ALSO, when I do get it to calm down the picture is a curved shape. Pin cushion type thing at the top. It's cylindrical and not horizontal.

I have touched every knob on the remote board, the chassis, and the game PCB. I have even tried a different game PCB, same deal.

So, the knobs on the remote board definitely work, I can make the picture change while moving them. I did notice that if I change the brightness it affects the intensity of the roll! WTF?

I am out of ideas. Got any? Thanks!

Ok, I see on the troubleshooting document that Ken Layton provided I need to look at D211, 212, TR204 and IC401.

IC401 has been replaced.

I guess I'll figure out what those parts are and order them.

Hey you got a link to that Ken Layton document ? I have a Sanyo with sync issues as well .

Yep, thanks a lot for that link. :beerchug:

Not sure how I've never run across that document before but it's been printed and is now part of my "library". (yep, I have a library... it's a stack of papers in NO order sitting on my shelf!!!) :D

Just an update for those interested...

I replaced D211, D212, and TR204 and everything is FIXED. Woot!

Perfect sync. Amazing picture. Happy boy.

Thank you Ken for scanning that 20EZ troubleshooting guide!!!!

Good to hear you got it fixed and the guide helped !

I'm pulling my sanyo out tonight and checking it out . The guide says I have some diodes to check and IC401 . If I can fix this myself I will be able to woot like you , hopefully ....

I swapped out two diodes and a transistor. I tried IC401 first (from a donor chassis) and that didn't fix it. So, for me... it was one of the two diodes or transistor. Easy fix, and cheap too.

Cool ! The Sanyo troubleshoot manual says for my sync issue its D161 or IC401 , but Bob Roberts doesn't carry IC401 . So I ordered some diodes and hope that will fix the problem . I wonder if IC401 ever goes bad ?
